My 2001 f250 7.3 with 181k on it starting acting up last weekend, I've owned this truck for like 7-8 years and been a damn good truck, this truck only gets driven about once or twice a month so it sits a lot, now my problem began last Sunday when I drove about 6-7 miles and stopped and my moms, let truck run for about 5-10 mins while I was there and when I pulled out the driveway when truck went to shift into second gear it's like it wasn't there until I let off the accelerator and then it shifted, done this several times, I have a ts performance 6 position chip, I have always ran it on 100hp for years, I turned off programmer and boom it shifted fine
So my question is, could my programmer be flaking out or do I have a valve in my transmission not holding the pressure my programmer is pushing it too, I added 2 bottles of Lucas and thought maybe something sticking but it didn't help cause yesterday I turned programmer back on and it did it again, fluid level is right and fluid is bright red
I changed filter and fluid probably 5 years ago and doesn't have probably 20k on it. So do I need a rebuild or new programmer?

Will it take gear if it is shifted manually? Speedo reading smoothly?

Sumbitch is shifting fine today but I forgot that reverse has been kinda funky for about a year. Almost like torque converter locked up or something. Like it's in high gear. Talked to my neighbor who is good at ford trucks and says sounds like the sprag is coming apart in torque converter. Sounds like that might be my issue but not sure.

Definitely update your tuner. Even its brand spanking new.

It's a ts chip. Only really update would be a custom tune I'd guess. I'm debating buying a hydra but that's 500 bucks. I'd hate to spend that and still need a 3000 dollar rebuild. Custom tunes for my current programmer probably 150 bucks or more
It doesn't make any sense that it's shifting fine today unless there's junk in fluid and causing a valve to stick but it's odd that it's only happening to second gear.

Truck starting slipping in second under a load so pretty sure converter is shot. Truck goes next week to shop Thanks for the help
