The myth was that one time in one of the northern states a driver in a car was going so fast when he hit a snow plow with wedge-shaped blade that he bifurcated (cut perfectly in half) the car all the way down the length of the vehicle.

They did a full-scale test with junkyard plow and a car and they couldn't get it to happen no matter how fast they made the car go. The plow always stopped at the engine block. So then they removed the engine and tried it and still couldn't get it to happen. At that point they busted the myth and decided to do whatever it took to make it happen. It took the rocket-powered plow-blade at 500mph to make it happen and even then the plow blade completely disintegrated, further showing that the myth was busted.
