call your bank and get a line of credit loan. super easy. way better than a credit card.
With little "credit history" to show, the bank is going to be skittish.

Keeping out of credit debt is admirable, but screwing you in the long run, plus CC's are "safer" than Debit cards should someone get your numbers and/or on line.

Talk to your bank, get a CC with a moderate rate, no monthly fees and nothing fancy. USE IT and pay it off every month (just like cash). One of the best things to do is use it to buy gas or groceries or something. Something that is a reasonably fixed, recurring amount and that you regularly do and normaly would have paid with Cash or Debit. Leave it in your pocket or better yet, at home the rest of the time so you don't get tempted to abuse it. If you can, save money in your bank acount for larger purchases (i.e. welder), then when you have enough, use your card then pay it off with the cash you've saved.

Now you have a good credit history that will help you immensely when you go to get a loan in the future.
