Raising my WJ gas tank

Startted with 1/8 inch plate. cut it out slightly bigger than the spare tire hole. ground paint down and used duramix to adhere it to the UNIBODY. this will support the unibody when I cut the hole for the spare out.Sorry I forgot to take my camera when I did this so I only have a afterphoto. After this I will post as I go. Once the spare hole is cut out (gotta let the duramix set up) We'll be shorteneing the skid, raising the tank,reworking the filler tube etc.. when finished you will open the rear hatch and not even be able to tell anything was done. I'm guessing the tank will be 8 to 9 inches taller and still have skid. I'll have to wait and see. The photo is of were the gas tank sits know and of the plate steel over the hole w/weight on it.

Thats a good idea. I take it that spare tire hole doesn't fit the larger tires you have anyways. good use of extra space...

Finished the tank. Forgot my camera again. Oh well, here's the finished product.
The tank sits in the skid. We cut 6 7/8 inch out of the skid. We also had to sleave the unibody to get the filler tubes re-routed higher. I'm really happy with how it turned out. LOTS better.

That looks awsome.:beer: Must feel a lot better knowing your gas tank ain't going to be dragging over rocks anymore. Again, i think this was a great idea. Didn't take alot of money, great use of valuable space, and looks good to boot:beer: :beer:
