XJ steering box problem. Any Ideas?

I would bet his pump is bad. I run 35" tires fully locked with the stock box and pump and have had no problems. It is a bit tough to steer when I am not moving and I had to brace the box and frame, but the box still works fine.

    Evans creek wheeling

I was up at Evans on Saturday with a group of Cherokees. We ran every trail except the 102 and upper 198. You now have to go through posts before you can get to any of the trails. I wheeled with a rig that was right at 80" wide and he just barely fit through the posts. The only recent changes to...

    Evans Creek improvements...

I get your point. You are saying that a government agency is not doing something it is supposed to do in the timely fashion that you would like. Imagine that!? I know it is hard to believe that it is not the Forest Service's top priority to update a width rule for an ORV park, but that is the...

    Evans Creek improvements...

Unfortunately they have yet to publish the new 80" width restriction anywhere. Those of us who were at the meeting did get the correct information from the people who actually make the rules. We were told by the LEOs who write the tickets that the width restriction has been increased to 80". I...

Why have a torque converter switch?

I've done that mod to my Jeep and the only time I use it is when I am on the freeway. It helps my MPG to keep it locked while driving on the freeway. You can also use it for steep descents.

    Naches july 22-24

X2 I was there at the meeting sitting next to Corey when he said it. He said there is still some snow on the trail, but it is open.

Anyone have any info on Evans Creek

Some friends of mine were up there last weekend and said the only trails they did not run were the upper 520 and 519., They said the upper 520 had several spots with 3-4 feet deep snow drifts that were so slushy that not even a buggy could get through. They never even tried the 519, but said...

    Lake trail

Surprise Lake is the name of the lake in case anyone is wondering. Easy trail with a cool lake at the top. With snow it can get pretty sketchy towards the top.

    Evans Creek Conditions Update

I saw you guys out there that day. The snow was definitely a little too deep for stock rigs. I rolled up right as the Montero was getting pulled out.

    Evans Creek Conditions Update

I was up at Evans this Saturday. There was still snow on the ground at the entrance but it was only a couple inches deep. We started by running the lower 311. The upper 311 looked well traveled, but we decided to try the 520 instead. The snow was about 1-2 feet deep at the entrance and there...

    School me on Jeep Cherokee

I have pulled the tierod and draglink from a V8 Grand and compared it side-by-side with Cherokee steering and the draglinks were exactly the same thickness, but the Grand Cherokee tie rod is thicker. It is not a huge upgrade, but I know several people with 33" and 35" tires who run them and have...

Government shutdown = Evans Creek closure

New information. The gate will stay open Most Federal government agencies are not able to give exact answers of what will happen if they shut down because they are still trying to figure it out themselves. It appears that the Forest Service is no exception. Below is an email that was just CC'd...

Government shutdown = Evans Creek closure

Looks like even if the government shuts down Evans will still be open for the weekend. I received the following email response from Bob about my concerns of the gate at Evans being closed this weekend. "Hi Bill. If the shutdown occurs tonight, employees are supposed to come in on Monday...

Government shutdown = Evans Creek closure

Pokey has it right. This would affect all national parks. Even Yellowstone would be closed. My big concern about this possible sudden, unannounced closure is that it may leave wheelers stranded inside the gate. There is a lot of snow up there right now and I don't think the forest service has...

Government shutdown = Evans Creek closure

I recieved an email from Bob Pacific, the head ranger for the Evans Creek area informing me that if the pending government shutdown happens it will likely result in the closure of federal recreational lands. This means that Evans Creek, and other national parks and recreation areas will be...

    School me on Jeep Cherokee

Another thing to consider when looking for a cherokee is what Dana 30 you have up front. Avoid the ones with the vac disconnect if you can, although they can be converted to take a 1 piece shaft. There are also versions with stronger shafts (I think it is the ones with ABS). There are problems...
