I have a closed knuckle 44 from a J truck, they are around. I have no idea about shafts, splines, inner or outers. That's where I would look for a donor shaft. I really doubt any of them were made at the right width for an MB/GPW. What your buddy has is probably custom and narrowed. Find one like mine, and have it shortened, probably the best bet. Of course, that won't be too bad, $100 or so (according to Dutchman's price list), but getting an open knuckle axle under there won't run too much more. Looking at the photos more, that is pretty wide, what are the dimensions, kingpin to kingpin?
