When I was actually competing, I thought I was doing far better than I actually did. When I watched the videos posted (at home), I realize I was driving like an old grandma. WTF was I thinking? I think I simply have too much trail driving background, and not nearly enough full throttle, race background. I simply did not drive nearly fast enough going down the obstacle course's downhill portion (and I could have gone faster, had I had the balls.) Nor did I hit the tow test in the correct gear selection (should have kept it in first!) I also didn't hit the Mud Pit with enough initial throttle (for fear of launching airborn at the start). And I should have 'jumped' the ramp in the Obsticle Course, however having watched Geby crush his rig, I elected to crawl it instead. That probably added 15 seconds to my time. Bad choice. </p><p> </p><p>Overall, the TJ held it's own. Which means, it's a great, bad ass TJ. But it's far from a competitive TTC rig. I need another 200 horses to even begin to spin the tires in the Mudpit or Tow Test. A 'stock-ish' 350 TBI (with cam, exhaust, etc) ain't nearly enough. I should have installed a LS7 or something. I needed hydro-assist steering, as I killed two different steering boxes. (I ran the Mini Rubi without power steering, as the fluid all ran out of the box - otherwise I think I actually could have made the course)</p><p> </p><p>And bad luck. It's odd, but the two events which got easier as the progressed were the Frame Twister and the Hill Climb. Both of which I got way early draws, and correspondingly crappy scores. The "X" hole, in the Twister, I was the first one to hit, and promptly got swallowed. (Which I fawked up, by not hitting it 'square', and/or, backing out of it instantly). As the big trucks attacked the X, it got chewed up into a giant 'box', which was far easier. Also, I was 5th to attack the hill climb, and (if I recall correctly) I was the first one to successfully climb the hill within the time limit. Three of the first four guys all either timed out, had rolls, or multiple rolls. But as each progressive drivers attacked the hill, the berms got lower, the 'line' got more defined, the loose topsoil got evicted, and the hill got faster. Every driver before me was slower, and every driver after me was faster. </p><p> </p><p>How would I have done differently? Well firstly, I'd have swapped out engines. Secondly, I'd have removed the front fenders, and further cut the body, and changed out to 44 cut boggers. (Toby, YOU are the MAN!) (I've also already change the steering to hydraulic assist). I'd also learn to drive differently. </p><p> </p><p>The two events which felt 'good' to me, whilest I was doing them, were the Obstacle Course, and the Hill Climb. My Obstacle Course run felt smooth and quick. And (at the time) being a small rig, with small tires, being able to make the Hill Climb, especially after the four rigs in front of me rolled, felt unbelievably good.</p><p> </p><p>Please, please, don't misunderstand my rant. I'm NOT regretful of what happened. I'm rejoicing in what happened. It was so fawking fun, that words cannot ever begin to express the joy, fun, thrills I experienced. And ALL the drivers, crew, staff, supporters were a blast to meet, or re-meet after many years.</p><p> </p><p>Would I come back again. You fawking better believe I would. How much fun!
