Making trip to Moab UT, looking for trail suggestions along the way!

Plus 1 for 21 Road. Big rocks and lots of them. Way different from Moab but I am a huge fan of both.
21 Road is probably better than Moab for the buggy types that don't do well on the street. It is tough to avoid the roads in Moab.

Spent a week July 4th last year in Ouray Colorado, some trails were still closed from snow. Some of the trails that were open had 12' snow banks on each side where they had cut then through. Very beautiful, left there went to Moab for couple days. Did Top of the World trail and few more trails, little ways out of town like most trails there but we camped at a campground real close to the trailhead that was on the river bank. Views traveling to town were amazing along the river. Top of the World is a must for the view at the end. Didn't do too many extreme trails because we were wheeling alone.

Try the Moab Dinner while you are in town.

Agreed. milkshakes are excellent. Gotta hit Milts Stop and Eat too for a great old fashioned Hamburger, it aint perty but the food is damned good.

Also, there's a cool little t-shirt shop on the main drag with custom made shirts and thousands of off road sticker. I walked out $100 poorer

Got to ride hells revenge if you go to Moab. Its 5 minutes outside of town. Right next to lion's back. It has hells gate and mickeys hot tub. I think its $5 entry fee.

We have been there before and really like Moab, its just a distance between obstacles for sure! The diner is awesome and we will for sure be going there!
@showtime33 is there any large overnight parking areas around? Was looking at stopping there after we leave farmington!

There are several campgrounds with large parking areas. Not sure how fast they fill up etc.

Were currently planning a trip for early September.

Whats the story on Area BFE?

Farmington is awesome,! Lots of crawling in and around choke cherry canyon. Lots of stuff mild to wild. You'll see where w.e. rock does nationals courses. Choke cherry crawlers is an awesome club that would probably show you around.id contact them and try to set something up. 21 road probably was the most disappointing trail i've ever done. Its very jeeply. Id say jeep on 35's would be good rig for there. Only other close trail is billings canyon and its a very tame trail. They do have that cutover trail ther to and its super fun but only 75 yards long at most. Montrose is fun as there is quite a few trails in that area but bring a map you'll do some traveling in between obstacles. Also if you can find 10 falls in gypsum, its about the most legit extreme trail colorado has to offer right now. You could hit up las cruses in new mexico amd hit up trails where they do the chile challenge. I havn't been there yet but place looks amazing. Area bfe is most definitely closed, theres no access. Which sucks cuz most buggy stuff was located there.
Hope that helps ya.

Bringing this back up! Looks like we may try Colorado again as our route. Anyone ever wheel Holycross up there? Looks like we can disperse camp along the road, just hope we have enough room to maneuver the trailer! We are looking at stopping there and then carnage canyon which looks to be just a little farther south off the same road.

Is everything opening back up for the trip there and back? I know you have the Moab stop covered, but was curious about the rest of the trip.

Also, what day do you set sail?

Colorado just announced today that the campgrounds and stuff are going to be open so we were thinking about heading that way now! We are leaving around the 24th of this month.

Colorado 4x4 Pass Conditions from 2019

Many of the Colorado 4x4 roads/trails/passes will not be open for a while. You should call and get local info before spending a lot of time/money/fuel to get to a road that is blocked by snow. Many passes open by memorial day, some don't open until July 4th and some done open at all in heavy snow years. I think Holy Cross opened in July last year, but that was a heavy snow year. Good luck, wish I was going with you. Other good trails out there in that area are Radical Hill and Red Cone....but they may still be closed. Carnage Canyon and Chinaman will be open due to their low elevation. Keep an eye out for mountain lions on those trails.
