After driving all over creation at Harlan, it got me curious how many miles we actually traveled. Since our Jeep doesn't have an odometer, it made me curious what everyone uses for this purpose?

I'm sure there are apps out there that would track us, so please feel free to share what they are. Or if there is another solution (high tech or low tech) for how to track mileage I'd love to read about it. I know an offroad odometer won't be super accurate due to tire spinning etc, I'd just like a way to figure out how many or how little miles we travel.

Avenza has a tracking feature. Time, coordinates, distance travelled, etc.. Just hit "start" when you hit the trail and "stop" at the end of the day. Pretty cool for keeping track of trails too.

Just use a GPS feature on your phone or similar. Back when I participated in adventure racing my watch would tell me how far/fast i travelled for bike, run and canoe. It also told me how fast my heart was beating, which is why I no longer do those races.

Ah that's good to know. I assume it's the "Record GPS Tracks" option when you click those three dots at the bottom corner of the screen? If so, will try that out at Hawk Pride for RBD.

Curious if Avenza will track mileage even if there isn't a map for a particular park? Meaning could I use Avenza Map to track while at AOP?

GPS feature like in Google Maps or a specific app?

Is there not one for Hawk Pride? I guess Carto tracks has one.

Try it. Turn it on, drive around your block and check.

There is a map for Hawk Pride on Avenza (it's actually a Carto Tracks map) so I'll try the tracking when down there for RBD.

I think putting a hour meter would be good, I mean you can ride all day at some places and cover just 4 or 5 miles, but put many hours on the rig. Just think, if you ride 8 hours in a day, that's the equivalent of 400-500 miles.

I downloaded a GPS Speedometer App with a built in Odometer. Turned it on when out running a few errands last night and it gathered a ton of info (current speed, average speed, max speed, trip miles, time duration, max and min elevation, etc), despite not being on a actual map.

On the way home from errands I turned on the "Record GPS Tracks" in the Avenza map and it gathered some info (current speed, average speed, trip feet, time duration, etc) despite not being on a actual map.

So between the two apps the Speedometer App gave more info and probably what I'll try to use at parks that do not have a map for Avenza, but the Avenza map would be more helpful at a place like Hawk Pride since it's two birds with one stone (Route tracking and odometer info).

Oh, elevation would be a fun one to watch at certain parks.

We use Ulysse speedomrtter.Works great. Lets you know how fast you are going. Lately we have had to take the juggy on surface streets to get to some of the trails. LOL

Will check that out as well.

That is some good information.

Agreed there. The Harlan trip got me thinking about it

I remembered listening to Ryan Miller with Campbell Racing/Enterprises talking on the Talent Tank about building an offroad odometer for his wife's Jeep for the Rebelle Rally. His counted every pass of the lug stud, so it counted 1/10 of a meter as opposed to 1/10 of a mile.

in the past ive used an app called Relive. it tracks where you have been, when you take pictures it adds them on the map where you were. at the end of the day it shows your track on and show pictures. works well. this link should work for one last year.

I've seen those videos before but didn't know the app. Very cool.
