Random Thoughts

Years ago I trapped a young squirrel and got it out with my welding gloves. It was cute and all and I walked over to a friend to show him...... wouldn't ya know it, that mf bit me clean through my glove and I chucked its ass clear across the parking lot like Brady, and then that mf ran right back to the roof top where I trapped him.
MF'r lol.

Heard a story around the hunting camp fire one night of a guy that was hunting them, shot one, picked it up and put it in his game vest but the mofo wasnt dead.

Wouldn't happen to be a toyota would it? There is a lawsuit against them because of this very issue. The insulation on the wires is soy based instead of petroleum and rodents of all kinds love it. I've heard of putting dryer sheets and cleaning products in and around the car can help.

I had read about that before too.
We had a big problem with them at work. They were chewing fenders and running boards bad. People complained a lot and there started being less squirrels. I think they trapped them.

It's not specifically related to just Toyota. Honda, GM, Hyundai, the list goes on and on. And it's not just soy. Peanut oil is used as well. Honda even started wrapping their looms with a rodent deterrent cover lined with capsaicin.
Insulation & other materials are also being made from more tasty oils these days.

My last truck, an 04 GM 8.1/allison, kept going into limp mode on me and leaving me stranded. Once I figured out that the dealer was just hitting it with the parts cannon (tcm, 4wd shift stuff × 2) and never solving the problem I decided to sell it as is and bought my 06.
Then, in the process of detailing the 04 for sale I removed the center console cup holders to wash them and to my surprise there was a nest right on top of all my transmission wires. Lifted up the nest & boom. Bare copper everywhere. I cleaned it all up, separated each wire with toothpicks and poured liquid electric tape over it all. Truck ran like a champ after that & problem never returned.
Don't know how they got in, truck was bought used so who knows.

I had a mouse in my semi last year for 2 weeks. That little ass hole drive me nuts till I finally got him in a trap. Man he tore all kinda stuff up

That makes sense. I had a squirrel destroy a set of plug wires on my pathfinder, but didn't really touch anything else. Must have been those peanut oil flavored ones from rockauto

They destroyed the transmission control harness on my Son's 07 Power Wagon. Three inch sections of wire were missing. They also ate the posts off of some core batteries that I had behind my shop. They are Satan Rats.

A few things to try. If nothing else they may help somebody. Watch Mark Rober's squirrel obstacle course on lietoyou tube...its pretty awesome. Dude is brilliant.

Squirrels like walnuts a ton.
Dont touch the traps or the nuts with your hands. Buggers are smart and know if your scent is on em. Live Trapped 2 in about 10 hours at my house and two mice too. I've probably hauled out 8-10 animal annoyances because of walnuts.

Bright lights.
LED strips or "corn bulbs" works good for chasing critters out of almost anywhere. Rv engine bays, attics, crawl spaces. Sometimes takes a few days but they get pissed off when the lights are on all the time. Often times they will find another dark place to hang out.

Figure out how to trap em and make em pets. I think a trained squirrel would be a rad novelty

And lastly Irish spring soap. Vegetable peeler it around places you want them to leave or cut it up with a pocket knife and place it in their pathway into the motorhome attic or whatever. Lots of times they will leave it alone too.

My last thought is find a neighbor kid who can shoot and put a bounty on them.
However like any rodent these ideas may or may not work for you.

Due to all various the trees, we have plenty of walnuts all around, so would have plenty of inventory if we go the trapping route. They seem to like the engine bays of the vehicles and the rear frame section/spare tire areas of both trucks.

May try the shredded Irish Spring soap around the base of each vehicle. It may work as a deterrent and if it doesn't, may clean various spots on the concrete driveway.

The only vehicle they have chewed wiring on (that we have found at this point) is her 2006 Toyota Tacoma. Chewed through the taillight wires right on the frame rail about two inches each direction. Haven't noticed any wire chewing on the Subaru car or Ford truck, but they have chewed on heat shielding on all three vehicles.

I'd think with all our trees and walnuts they'd have plenty to keep them occupied around here, but apparently they are getting bored and have decided to become destructive. I know part of the reason would be us both working from home, so the vehicles don't move everyday like they used to.

I thought we were going to get another dog as a new addition to the house but instead the wife informed me about a kiddo as the new addition to the house...:****:

Pretty sure my neighbors would be against that option!
