While back I bought this fan at rural king thinking that this will work great in the shop.. well it is two speed but both just suck . Hardly any air moving around. I was wondering what you guys thought about changing one of the pulleys to make the blades turn faster??? Any ideas? 31F60871-6C35-4A46-8C2D-C6B606C836FC.png

I just bought the rk pedestal fan Saturday and love it. I have a fan similar to what you got and this new fan is a lot better, wish I'd bought 2. But yeah you could chang pulleys and get a new belt

So if I'm thinking rite I need to go smaller on the fan ????

it'll probably overheat the motor if you try to turn the blades faster.

I have one similar to that (old model, 15 years old or so).

strangely enough, it seems to do better/more air movement using it as an exhaust fan, lower one garage door down on it and open the other.

We had one on a jobsite that was 220v but worked plugged into 110. It was terrible until we got it plugged in to the right voltage...any chance it's got a 220 motor?

How do you have it positioned in the shop?

I've got a 42" fan as well and the airflow is drastically different depending on where it's sitting. I normally have it blowing in through the garage door on one side and out a man door on the other side. If I put it inside the shop it barely pushes air.

yes, you could spin the blades faster by reducing the size pully on the fan or increasing the size pulley on the motor. depending on the cost of the pulleys vs. cost of the belt, you might be able to reduce pully size on fan, increase size of pulley on motor and not need to change the belt if you have enough adjustment on the belt.

just for reference and I really have no idea what size pulleys you have, but let's just say the fan has a 5inch pulley. if you replaced it with a 4inch pulley it would spin 25% faster. before the internet engineers bash me and tell me you wouldn't really get that because of increased drag/deadhead etc., they are right, but i'm guessing you just want more air and are not going to get out an anemometer to measure to make sure we are right?

BTW, I have the 2speed 42" commercial electric from HD and it moves plenty of air but it is so loud, you almost need ear plugs to work around it and need to shout to the person 2 ft from you.

I also have one of these in the shop. It works well, i rarely run it on anything but low speed. It is reasonably quiet and moves a good amount of air.
Does it oscillate? I didnt see mention on the ad, and my local store doesnt have any in stock. We have a few pedestal fans in a friends shop and they are awesome. One oscillates and makes it so much nicer.

No. We have 3 set up in the shop pointed different directions and the move the air so it's not horrible. Help keep the bugs down too for some reason the mosquitos are bad sometimes around the shop and the air seems to keep them away. Or it is noticeable if the fans arent running the amount of bugs.

I have an old paint shop exhaust fan that works pretty well when positioned in front of the door pulling hot air out.
