Never had a build thread, so I guess I'll give this a shot.

Here is what I'm workin with:

1988 Toyota Pickup
22rte
r150f 3.0 5sp with the gear driven case adapter
23 spline dual transfer cases with 4.7s
5.29s and Yukon Zip Lockers F/R
OG Longfields
Running 35" MTR Kevlars
RUFs and some f-150 leafs in the back, with garbage shocks

Its a driver / wheeler. Its been driven to the Hammers and back. Its literally never been on a trailer while I've owned it, and when I bought it, it was boner stock. I'm sick of bruising my kidneys everywhere I go, while being only marginally faster than a Samurai with a clogged exhaust.

So here is the Plan:

One of these things, and some link suspension with coilovers. I'll just drop those in real quick and....:SMH:

..

Got my adapter kit in the mail today from 1uzswapkit.com. Mates the early (pre 96) R series trans to the 1UZ. Looks to be a pretty complete kit. Came with the internal clutch slave / throwout bearing, stainless lines for it, a flywheel and all the fasteners that I should need.

The motor came out of a 1993 SC400, non traction control. So its pre-VVTI, only 250hp and 260ft/lbs. Should be plenty to break some toyota axleshafts.

Also realized that the sc400 had a hydraulic cooling fan on it. I'm going to use electric fans, so today I took the guts out of the pump, welded the feed / return lines up,filled it with Lucas oil and put it back together. (I know you can get an idler from the ls400, but it has a different size pulley, and I already have a good serpentine belt, so we'll see how that holds up.)

Also got some 1.25 rod ends for the links. Stuff is getting spendy real quickly.

That all sounds like a terrible idea :hi: you should be able to knock that out in a weekend right? What I find that motivates me the most is when I'm working in the shop a group of guys comes over and tells me how they would do it :haha:
Going to be a bad ass truck for sure:awesomework:

more stuff

Still in the collecting parts phase. Just a few things left until the motor goes in.

Got a generic organic high pressure clutch for a 3SGTE

also got my rebuild kit for the r150f, BUT I'm still waiting on the higher overdrive gears to come in the mail.

Pick N Pull had their 50% off sale this weekend, so I picked up some more junkard crap for the swap. I.E. the 1uz Bellhousing that I didn't have yet. Nothing like pulling a trans in the dirt just for the bellhousing.

,
Also shown is the sc400 in tank fuel pump (which I may or may not actually use), some relays with plugs, and some misc crap I didnt have yet.

Hopefully can get some time in the shop this week to start putting stuff together. Cant wait to get my gears in the mail for the trans so I can button that thing up.

..

I'm in the same boat. Sorta.

Yep, looks like you're in about the same spot I am. What a horrible idea, right? Is that the KS Racing bellhousing? I thought about going that route, but I got lazy and just bought the bellhousing adapter. I wish I didnt have to run the internal clutch slave cylinder now though.

Been a while. Update: Bought a new house with a real shop. Life got busy. BUT the wheeler is finally off of the back burner.

Then, front links and shiny ORI struts. Went with 14" struts. Also went with a huge panhard bar. If anyone ever reads this, go ahead and make fun of me, I can take it.

Only about 5" of uptravel. Hard to get more on 35" tires and keeping it as low as I can.

Had to notch the frame for the panhard at full stuff. Did every link end placement 3rd try. Plenty of re-do's and cutting stuff back off.

making room for uptravel, flipped the histeer to lo-steer. Time will tell if this was a stupid idea. I know muscle car guys double taper their steering arms so why not. IMG_7182.jpg
IMG_7183.jpg

then delete all the leafs brackets etc in the rear. Which was a pain because I had frenched my leaf hangars frenched into my frame. IMG_7206.jpg

IMG_7209.jpg What I started off with
IMG_7211.jpg fresh brackets cut and bent for frameside links
one.jpg and axleside uppers done.
two.jpg almost.
IMG_7220.jpg ok now done.

All this work has been done during the great quarantine of 2020, so I've got a little more backlog of posting to do, but gonna get up to current soon. Maybe this forum wont die just yet.

IMG_7224.jpg Had to make room for the struts
IMG_7228.jpg so the frame got a little C-notch
IMG_7236.jpgand then the tires were all over the front of the frame notch, so that got wedged out

IMG_7240.jpgthen made some baskets to put the shiny stuff in
IMG_7245.jpg and checked flex again.

it all seems so easy looking once its finished
