I have a 2000 ford 350 6 speed. it is grinding 1 and 2nd. any ideas?? am thinking about just rebuilding it bc its been in ther for 350000 miles. any tips on rebuilding one? bands manly....
any help would be great thanks.

Sounds like a little clutch dragin issue. :fish: is it a pain to get in reverse also?

It's probably the synchronizers. The factory clutch forks all bent in them which caused the clutch to not fully disengage & it is hard on the synchronizers. It's usually 3rd gear that gives trouble. Ford makes an updated fork that doesn't bend. The factory pressure plate is also bad about getting hot &causing the springs to get so stiff that the slave cylinder can't create enough pressure to disengage the clutch.

I put a south bend clutch in mine. Twice the clamping force & half the pedal pressure. They're high but worth the money.

Thanks... so what all parts would i need for the rebuild?
An it goes in reverse fine. Does anybody know where I can get a good service manual for that transmission?

Ford is a expensive option  ,Standard Transmission&Gear INC. would be a better option for seals bearings & sincro ring kit. They use timken bearings(good stuff) They can hook u up with a good manual also :****: give them a shout if your wanting to rebuild it. :dblthumb:

Thanks. Does anyone know if all the foward gears are synchronized? I have been told
two different thing all are an all but 1st.

Does the clutch pedal have a bunch of "freeplay"?Meaning that the pedal moves alot before you feel it start pushing on the pressure plate.

I've rebuilt quite a few of the ZF-5&6 speed transmissions. It takes a couple of big pullers to get it apart. And also a box of rotunda special tools. It's definitely not like building an SM465. I charge a $1000 just for labor including R&R. Parts run anywhere from $350 to $800 or more depending on the problem. Hope this helps if you've got any questions give me a call and I'll try to help 615-293-3187
