So I'm now thinking this is a no-go. I hooked the empty trailer up to the Hemi today and it almost completely bottomed out the rear suspension. The frame of the trailer at the tongue was only about 6" off the ground. I'm thinking if I actually put the buggy on it I'll be dragging frame.

Kind of makes sense. As soon as I got the Hemi I noticed how nice and soft / smooth the rear suspension was vs. my Cummins, which rides like it basically has no springs without a few thousand pounds hooked to it. I actually can't get ENOUGH tongue weight with my Cummins because the buggy can't pull far enough forward on the trailer without the rear tires sitting on top of the trailer fenders.

So it looks like the good ole' Cummins is going to earn its paycheck once again this weekend. I <3 MY CUMMINS!

That would be the disadvantage of the coil spring rear end! Father in laws dodge is coil spring rear and it squats with my empty car trailer hooked up. Not as bad as that one sounds though.

I will just drop this here (it dus squat some )

I tow with my 1500 z71 with the all aluminum 5.3 and I love it. It handles my 1ton jeep great and is comfy as hell. Just got a Diablo programmer and can't wait to tow the jeep with it.

Ive got a 2012 ram 1500 hemi. Pulled 18ft trailer with jeep Cherokee to windrock the other day and never dropped below 14mpg by the screen not sure what it would've came out to hand calculated. They pull pretty good IMO

J.J. Remember I had it on the floor the entire time from Oxford to Pell City. I went through almost a half tank. lol 90 and above was sketchy to say the least!

Steve, that was the most impressive thing I have seen out of a stock 5.7. Took the cummins a couple min to walk you down when you blew by us. I dont think you fell below 80 the whole way.

Had a 2007 Power Wagon--Hemi, 5speed auto, 34" aftermarket tires--9 mpg towing, 11 in town, 12-13 on the highway. Biggest turd I've owned, Chrysler eventually bought it back. Hemi is gutless, no torque below 3500-4000 rpms.

I found out that this truck has air bags in the coil springs in the rear that you can put up to 35 psi in. I've got to tow my buggy around town a bit for some parades the next couple of weeks, going to give it another try.

Re:

Towed with the hemi tonight. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but no passing and no hills. I'll stick with the Cummins for now.

Yeah it does suck but if ya never had anything different you don't realize how much easier it is to tow with a Cumins or the like
