I might trade for an 01 crew cab 4wd with the 8.1 Allison combo 200k miles please tell the good bad and ugly it runs like a sewing machine

Re:

I've got one and love it! The only thing I don't like about mine is its a short bed so it's got a small tank and requires more constant fill ups than I'm used to. What are ya pulling with it?

Not really pulling anything. I can just get a good deal on it and its a nice truck . I have a cummins for a tow pig . You just don't see many and I knew someone on here had to have one . I will probably just sell it

They aren't very plentiful on the market, if it's nice and you getting a good deal, shouldn't have a problem flipping it for a little profit. Might take a bit longer to sell than a half ton, but there is still a good market for them as tow rigs.

I've got an 01 8.1 GMC 2500 CCSB. I love it! I had a 01 F250 7.3 and 6spd before it. I didn't if i would like going from a manual diesel to a automatic gas hog. But like i said i love it. The Allison trans is nice!

I had one and sold it to a member on here, I regret selling that truck more than any other ive had. Post up pics and hit me up if you decide to sell it, I am in the market for another low budget tow rig. I hate taking my new Ram to mud parks. I pulled a 38 foot gooseneck half enclosed and half open deck all over the place, and it towed great. Only downside to the one I had, it was only ext cab, and fuel mileage loaded around 4.5 mpg, but unloaded it was around 14-15, which is better than both of the 6.0 Chevys I had.

This is the truth... Every 8.1 I have ever seen it this way. The only part that ever seems to go bad on them is a cam sensor :****:

I was thinking about getting it tuned and playing with that **** but after riding in a 36ft motorhome, pulling a trailer and grossing 25k that was powered by an 8.1 and Allison I think I've decided to just put gas and oil in it as needed and run it till the day it dies, if it ever does.

He's right it was a dam good truck I let it go to buy another diesel . If I didn't need the mileage I would still have it .

4.5 mpg loaded is fawking painful

If you are getting this kind of mileage something is wrong. I am a Workhorse dealer and they used these engines in the motor home chassis for about 10 years. The 28' rv's(14-16K gvw) got around 10-12 mpg and the 38' motor homes(22000gvw) are getting 6-8 mpg.
We have installed header systems and free flowing mufflers and picked up one mpg as an average. Getting those engines where they can breath really wakes them up. We have seen more issues with knock sensors causing poor mileage than anything else.

I haven't pulled my MJ with mine yet. But with my 30ft camper it gets 10. Highest I've gotten unloaded is 12.5. I have a cold air intake, 3" true dual with no cats, a x-pipe, and Magnaflow Magnapacks. It should be breathing pretty good.
