Standard transmission in a rock buggy?

I guess I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled on that. I’ve got a Nissan pathfinder with stock 5 speed and have debated using it with an adapter to an ls or lt engine. NV4500 would omit a pricey adapter to a transmission that may or may not be strong enough (same as the 300zx that people do big HP...

    Homemade doubler?

Here’s my Nissan, also with a 205 - but married via an NWF doubler. The tx10 is a pretty beefy case, especially for the gutless engines it was behind.

    Salvage 10

I like how this is shaping up. I haven’t seen a build thread like this in a long while. Keep it up! You’re getting close

    Orbital quality differences

It’s probably the ultimate full send chinesium Xtremium model. Trail gear tech emailed back and said they don’t know of a seal kit for theirs so I’m on my own. Honestly, if I can’t find a seal kit or just decide to cut bait, I’ll order the bkor one

    Orbital quality differences

Looks like they sell the same orbitals as psc, plus their badass pump.

    Orbital quality differences

That’s relatively cheap to rule that out and appears to fit a lot of models (including Toyota and Nissan) so I have to assume metric and standard must use some same sized seals or it includes each. In either case, I’ll give it a shot for $35 Thank you!

    Orbital quality differences

That’s comforting for me, although I imagine it pissed you off

    Orbital quality differences

What’s the difference in a $1000 Eaton from psc, a $600 trail gear, and a $274 chinesium? Backstory: I’m hoping some smarter than me can shed some light on the quality differences in orbitals. I had a trail gear system with their pump and some old nascar reservoir. It would act like the fluid...

    NP205 doubler mounting

Got the install pretty much wrapped up today. I’ve only driven it in and out of the garage, but will be leaf looking at Windrock Saturday. The cable shifters work great. I expected some grinding, clunking, cussing, etc but they operate well. Front driveshaft gained 4.5” which helps a ton on the...

    NP205 doubler mounting

I’ll stop at a 6.0. I’m not so confident in the Nissan stuff to get too wild, but would like the low end grunt of a stockish engine. Hell I’d be happy with a 4.8 old man truck engine.

    NP205 doubler mounting

If the advice doesn’t take, don’t take it personally. I’ve never met anyone who regretted an ls swap

    NP205 doubler mounting

Should be about 3.84 (1.96x1.96) I pulled out a 3.7:1 geared stock case (gears were aftermarket). I really wanted 1350 fixed yokes, mid range (1.96) and front digs.

    NP205 doubler mounting

I really want to put an ls in front of the 5 speed. It’s the same 5 speed used in the twin turbo z cars. With the adapter I’ll still be less money in than an nv4500 and if it ever fails, the xterra/frontier ones are even slightly better than this one. Patrick has tried to talk me out of this...

    NP205 doubler mounting

They offer this doubler. The stock Nissan case is a beefy gear reduction box with a chain drive unit attached. You ditch the chain drive and mount the doubler adapter. The stock gears are 1.96:1 and huge. They dwarf stock 300 gears and are more on par with the 205. Way overkill for the mediocre...

    NP205 doubler mounting

I think I’m done selling it. You’re a better builder than me anyway - get that house done and build a 4Runner

    NP205 doubler mounting

Only took 8 months, but I did like you suggested @TBItoy. It’s got 6 bolts in two planes holding to the aluminum housing. Hopefully that’s enough to keep from pulling out the threads. Oh, and the stock trans mount is going away, it’s just there until the new mount is tied to a crossmember

14 bolt axle flange bolts wont stay tight

Bumping this thread for old time sake… I can’t put hubs on a 14 bolt without thinking of this post. I never met John but still got help from him through the forum.
