So we have some vans at work that we're getting rid of and one is an 07 2500 express with a 6L. My question is would this be worth swapping into my heep? I know jack about LS motors or whatever the truck/van versions are called. I haven't messed with small blocks since I had tree fiddys in my old Camaros in the early 90s. This one has has a little over 200k on it but runs great, the tranny is slipping thus why it's sitting. The others have 4.8s best I can tell. Looks like I could get it for $250-300 and I was thinking maybe a tune, cam and cut down harness then scrap the body. So should I be worried about the miles or any other issues with this era of motors. Thanks

That engine would bring 12-1500 all day long, especially since it's has all accessories and all the other little things that makes it work.

Yup, as long as it ain't knocking (a little at startup isn't uncommon with those miles) and makes oil pressure you should be good to go.

That's a perfect engine basically.

07 means you got the updated rods/pistons
Van means no DOD/VVT
Van also means it's DCB IIRC

In order to swap in a XJ you'll need a different accessory drive, car intake (think LS1, LS6, LS2), and low pro pan (F-Body, Holley Muscle car, MAST or something similar).

Trans-wise, you can do the classic th350/th400/th700 or go with an electronic unit and overdrive like a 4l60 or 4l80.

What year did they get updated rods and pistons? We have an 05 too.

Rolling change during 2003/04.

Not like the other ones were weak, but if you start boosting them, the upgraded units take a bigger beating.
