Custom buggy hauler

I hear them constantly dragging at Adventure Off-road Park and Hawk Pride in the gravel driveways in the parking area and at Hale in the parking areas too, which is why I mentioned it earlier.
I like a dragging trailer, with all this Ford power it reminds me I have a trailer behind me loller.gif

I asked him for his thoughts on building this using 5" channel instead since it'll be a 9990 gvwr with a 4600 lb load.

He said "We don't build flimsy trailers".

That extra inch on channel doesn't add much weight at all (think of it as a 1" tall strip in the middle of the web) and adds lots of stiffness.

Your right. Going from 8.2lb per ft down to 6.7lb per foot channel isn't much. About 160lbs is all.

Hold up! I think I'm in the middle of price increases which is definitely not cool. He said it would be first of the year, but I'm noticing how things are higher since my last quote & some things are higher over the phone vs what's advertised. To be fair, that was almost 2 months ago, but he does need to update his info.

My original quote was $4250 for an 18'
A 20' with basic options is $4450
+ $100 flip up ramps
+ $100 12k drop leg jack
+ $100 winch plate
+ Still needs a $200 tool box
+ Probably comes with shitty 225/75r15 tires that need replaced for another $500.

That $5450 with the tires I trust. Jesus!

Upgrading the existing shitty 6 lug to higher load 8 lug & shitty tires is another $600. Then what? Spend another $650 for quality 235's on top of that? That means an 8lug version I want would be $6200 with the tires I trust.

That's some serious coin for an 18' 10k-12k trailer.

I just received an updated quote. This includes the Goodyear Endurance E rated 235/80r16 already on it & saves me the hassle & cost of swapping tires later.

$5310

12k 96" x 18' buggy hauler
Straight wood deck, no dovetail
1/8" Diamond drive over fenders
Stand up ramps with load supports
12k drop leg jack
Adjustable 2-5/16 coupler
6" channel frame & tongue
3" channel crossmembers 24" oc
6k 8lug axles (6" narrower)
Goodyear Endurance 235/80r16 E
Silver mod wheels
No rubrail or stake pockets
4 D-rings
Led lights

Still needs a toolbox, but this is the only way I can get a more narrow 96" wide buggy hauler.

This was my plan B if a 96" buggy hauler couldn't be done.

$5100

Moritz ELH AR 14k
2920 lbs
18' straight deck
Drop Torsion axles 22.5" deck height
235/80r16 load E
8" x 10lb i-beam mono frame
12k drop leg jack
3" channel crossmembers 16" oc
1/8" diamond fenders
Aluminum tool box
Aluminum flip up ramps
1/4" stake pockets
Led lights
Adjustable 2-5/16 coupler

The plan was to weld 3x3 box tube to the stake pockets which would turn a 81.5" wide deck into 91.5". Then its just a matter of relocating the ramp brackets out a little further.

Looks like a heavier duty trailer all around. Cheaper and already has the tool box.

Steel prices have skyrocketed in Q4 this year. We are seeing a 28% increase in mild steel from Mid year 2020 to January 2021. He may jack your prices up again if you don't lock in soon.

I know right! I really like that Moritz. Plus it'll have a lower/smoother ride with less maintenance. And I don't have to wait weeks/months to get one.

He said they'd be going up soon in early 2021. Diamond C said the same so It's probably going to happen with everything.

That mortiz looks nice. The toolbox is worth a couple hundred.

you could also make the side widners drop into the stake pockets instead of welding them on

I picked one of these 14k 18+2 dovetail trailers up last week from Big Tex dealer in Pelham Al for just over $4800 after taxes. I'd never heard of Rice brand but looked like it was built good, already had a toolbox also, pulls like a dream and frankly didn't want to wait another 6 months for Lawrimore to build me another trailer.

I'm sure there are plenty of nice trailers out there, but if it isn't sold somewhat close by then it's pointless. I've spent a ridiculous number of hours searching & it's come down to these two.

I've looked at or researched PJ, BigTex, LoadTrail, IronBull, Moritz, CornPro, Johnson, Appalachian, Kauffman, Rice, Lawrimore, Lamar, MaxxD, Diamond C, H&H, SureTrac, WorxHaulers, Stillwater, this list goes on & on.

Trailers surely going up in price,I had this one built by Lawrimore 3 or 4 years back only cost $4900 then,24' drive over fenders, full steel deck 6 lug axles 102" wide,I sold it on here for like $3500 when times hit hard. I quoted same trailer with 8 lug axles couple weeks ago at Lawrimore and it was going be $7200 with 5-6 month wait. To me that Moritz trailer you posted looks like the better trailer

Here's an example of what I'd do with the Moritz using tube. It wouldn't see very much load at all. More about piece of mind & lessening the need to be so precise when loading.

PS: I'm trying to keep this significantly less than $5200, because the closer I get to that price the more likely I am to say screw the whole idea & just deal with the width.

In the beginning.....I was excited about getting this built for $4250, but now that it's gone north of $5300 & still needs a toolbox......not so much now!
