• Help Support Hardline Crawlers :

Detached shop garage better WiFi

Hardline and done. I've bought about every wireless product you can buy. Nothing will get past 10' in the shop. However if I had all the passwords for the net works around me it would work. Btw I'm about 90 feet from the house. Digging a ditch will work but you can also run it over head. Cat 5 cable is cheaper than a ditchwitch. Run it over head.

Who ever mentioned bend tech and updates, if your using a laptop just take it up to the house once a month. It'll update and is good for another month. They don't check each useage like torchmate.

I have setup a couple of these for people and their home shops. https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Orbi-Home-System-RBK50/dp/B01K4CZOBS/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1532437387&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=netgear+orbi+rbk50&psc=1
Very easy to setup, they work perfectly and don't require any additional equipment in the shop/out building.

Knowing your distance between buildings is key to what model you use on the Orbi's or switch to the Ubiquiti..

For much longer distances up to 9 miles that have line of sight I have been using two of these https://www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-Nanobeam-Wireless-Bridge-NBE-M5-16/dp/B00K8OCW1S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1532437635&sr=8-2&keywords=ubiquity+wireless+bridge . These are pretty straight forward to setup but require another router to be setup in the shop/out building. I am also using these here at work to connect five of the county building back to the main office.

The cost of the Ubiquiti bridges and router in the shop is about the price as the Netgear Orbi.

I've got a driveway to cross as well.

Josh's ditch witch idea is about the only thing we have came up with so far. I'd also like to find a wireless alternative.
I have a trencher for the front of my skid steer. Driveway has a bunch of asphalt on it, there's a gas line to cross and dad doesn't remember where he buried the electric cable for the shop when he ran it out there.

Might not work for everyone but I had the same problems I didn't have cell service in shop bc it was a metal building but added a Wilson signal booster i dont remember exact model but it was around 500.00 but added it to the outside of the shop and ran it inside and now I have 4g in the shop and can use my phone as a hotspot

What's the difference between a bridge and a repeater ? Also have same issue as discribed

Connect Lan to Lan ports with cat5, leave default settings on the main router, turn off dhcp service on the secondary (shop) router.
Should be good to go

Bridge in this case just joins the network at point A to the network at point B. That's why you have to have a second router in the shop/outbuilding.

A repeater just grabs the single it can pick up has been told to use and rebroadcast it over an extended area.
