Found a pretty good deal on an 06 superduty 60 front. It's not the super 60. 8 lug metric on unit bearings with ball joints. Seems like some pretty beefy components going on with it like 35 spline shafts the whole way. Also looks like maybe the bearings can be drilled for standard 8 x 6.5. Anyone know if these are worth working with? For only $600 it seems like a good deal but figured I'd check with you guys. Thanks

Re:

There is a huge thread on pirate about those axles.

Mortalis on here ran one. Dale Larsen ran one.

They are strong and big and heavy.

I've also seen them for cheaper than $600.

Thanks guys. I made it to about page 7 before I figured I'd ask you guys. It gets confusing sometimes because theres a lot of talk about the super 60.

I may even be able to make a few bucks back. It's a whole front frame cutout from the radius arm mounts front. Looks like all of the suspension and steering is there including the steering box.

Re:

It's pure beef, I'll say that. The unit bearing can be drilled but a lot of wheel companies make 8 on 170 wheels. The gears are thick cut. Rock solid preformance and another guy on pirate make arms and slugs for them. I wanna say warn came out with manual hubs for them if you go with something other than the factory hubs.

They are 35 spline inner and outer. Can't go wrong with it. I put rcv's in the one I had.

I like mine. I'm running 39" Krawlers on it and have put about 9-10 trips on the stock shafts and hubs with no issues yet. I wish hi steer was easier/ cheaper but my set up is working fine for now. That solid axle cover actually doesn't fit this housing correctly. It needs to be shaved down about 1/4" inch on the bottom driver side of it to match the contour of the housing FWIW. And my steering set up is a 1.5x.25 wall DOM tie rod with 15 or 20* bends in the corners, gusseted, and then slugged in the middle with 1" cold rolled shaft. So again, it needs bends or a full hydro ram mount build on to it which is in the plans. This axle really does dwarf KP 60's in size.

That looks pretty nice in there. I'm gonna try it. Talked him down to 500 for the whole cutout. Hoping to pick it up Saturday. I'll be running full hydro so hopefully it shouldn't be too hard to get that part squared away. Luckily, this one is already geared right too.

You guys that have actually used these axles,

Did you incorporate the factory link mounts, or cut them off and weld on your own link tabs for your lowers?

Since I'm using the ballsack fab coil/ shock/ LCA mount I cut it down to the housing and went from there. Mine is a Clayton 2-5/8" rubber bushing at the axle, that's how wide a 1-1/4" joint is, right?

I'll upload pics when I get home, ACE hardware doesn't have LTE in here

If I were running CO's or ORI's I'd build my axle mounts off that inner C stock coil spring mount.

Wow, looks like you had fun cutting that old stuff off. Looks good though. I'll be running c/o's and I like your idea of attaching to the coil bucket mounts. Maybe I could run some flat plate from C to C with a little bend for the chunk and brace down to the tube in a bunch of places. Do you know if the C's are cast steel or iron? I don't have any experience welding to cast but I'll try anything once.
