I've been trying to make some salutes with aluminum powder and potassium perchlorate and can't get the damn mixture right! Just getting a big poof!

This way is a hell of a lot cheaper right at 8$ for a pound of aluminum powder and I rob the the cold first aide packs by the case for work for the ammonium nitrate

O yeah cold pack takes 1tsp of al powder. You also make your own al powder by blending up your used aluminum foil
