I have searched without much luck. I'm curious about what ppl are using for belly skids on lighter rigs?

My rig should be ~2500lbs when complete. I have always used 1/4" plate on bigger rigs and feel like 1/4" steel is likely overkill and a ton of weight for this one. The skid will be ~30"x30" and can be supported in the center of needed.

Any suggestions or experience with lighter materials?

3/8 or 1/2" uhmw with 1/8" backing. you could dimple the plate to strengthen and lose weight

^^beat me to it

mine has no holes/dimpling; does not need more strength
largest open span approx14x20

This is what I ran but I ended having to install a few ribs/ stiffeners to keep it from bending
