I'm going to Vonore, TN next week for work. Staying in Maryville. I might end up with some downtime...maybe? I've never been to Tellico before. If I wanted to go drive through it, see things, etc... What would I do? Where do I go? do's? don'ts?

Just Google Green Cove motel.....should get you close. Then just pass it on by till you get to the top.

You'll know when you're there.

You'll go by Bald River Falls (popular destination up there).

"Trail 1" is paved now and is just a road across the mountain.

Just drive everywhere there isnt' a locked gate, go look at some trees and rocks and ****.

There's also a gravel road just before the final bridge cross before you get to TN/NC line.

The gravel road will be on your right and ( I think it's still gravel?), and it will actually take you to the top of Trail 2 / lower Rock Garden. Pretty gnarly back in the day. Keep on going up that road and it will sprout to the left and that dirt trail will take you to a pretty nasty ledge that is the upper part of 2.

Pretty cool. I beat the plastics off a KDX200 pretty bad on lower 2 back in the day. LOL

Trail 6 is also open on the left. Goes all the way to peckerwood. There are several more scenic trails that go to a lake and and old cemetery on the top of a hill, very cool.

Sooo glad I got to wheel there several times back in the day. Gorgeous place and had some nasty climbs too !

I had a buncha pix from my Dad and I loaded up on Sony Imagestation from our dirt bike days but lost them all when they crashed..... hindsight is always 20/20, shoulda kept a backup. :(

We're staying down here in tellico plains. I've asked three different people about it and they all looked at me like they've never heard of such a thing

Not surprising,

it has been closed for 10 years.

I bought a "Save Tellico" sticker at a gas station in Tellico Plains circa 2007-8 and the person running the cash register had no idea about the OHV area or what we were doing with all them "mud buggys" on the trailers.

honestly I believe the reason that more places arent shut down is just that the average public has no idea about offroading in general.

You're probably correct. I found a guy that new what he's talking about. Going to check it out in the next few days
