We wanted to start a thread with a bunch of our current Jeep builds we are working on. We have made a couple production Jeep chassis that give you all of the benefits of an extreme 4x4 racing/trail buggy, with the looks and comfort of a Jeep Tj, Yj, or Cj body. These are some of the best performing Jeep chassis available. All of the parts on these guys are available on our website, wideopendesign.com. It's important to us to enable the at home builder a way to build 4x4's like these without being a custom fabricator or designer.

When we set out to design the this new "JC" Jeep Chassis it was to get rid of all of the problems that we had run in to over the years with building off of the stock frame. We took a lot of time in front of a CAD screen to come up with the best frame out there for hard core wheeling that would fit a Jeep Body. We were able to place the axle links where we wanted them and then build the frame around that. We also placed the drive train where it would sit in the right spot for the best clearance and give the balance that we wanted. We worked every thing out for a nice strong cage that when tied into the frame stiffened up the entire Jeep to where your ridding in a buggy wrapped in a Jeep shell.

Following along this thread we are going to continually keep this updated with builds that we are doing based off of this chassis platform. As we come up with new ideas and upgrades this is where you will see them.

Wide Open Design - TJ Jeep Chassis Build Thread

This one is of our recent TJ Jeep build projects. Our customer wanted the benefits of having a TJ Jeep body and looks, but have the ultimate performance of a Wide Open Design rock/racing buggy....Basically, the ultimate hybrid trail monster Jeep! He wanted a custom look and huge performance but with the reliability, ease-of-use, and affordability of off-the-shelf parts. We love projects like this one, because its possible for just about any 4x4 enthusiasts to create a vehicle like this using our store.

So we started with our production series Wide Open Design TJ Jeep, Tube Chassis. What is so great about this is that it has the custom design y'all like with the convenience of being able to build on it yourself. We built this chassis so you don't have to be a fabricator or have a great deal of money to get a great chassis. With easy maintenance and assembly, this rig will have all of benefits and performance of the components on a race/trail buggy, but have the comfort and layout of a TJ Jeep body. Its really a great off-road platform and is built to give you guys the ultimate performance while maintaining the TJ Jeep look. Its one of our personal favorite off-road, TJ Jeep frames. This frame has several options to tailor it to the amount of skill you have as a builder or different features you would like to have like: shock mounts, drive-train mounts, a cage, link mounts, and rear fender caps.

This is the first Jeep chassis we have built with a back seat and a family style cage. We upped the outer rails of this cage to .188 wall DOM to keep the rock dings down. We mounted the seats to the cage and built a custom shifter mount to the cage that made placing the Winters shifter pretty easy. We made sure to drop the back seat as low as possible and actually attached it to the frame through the floor board. The customer wanted to make sure grown ups could ride in the back if they wanted to.

So we are going to post a few pictures of the build and if you guys have any questions please don't hesitate to ask away.

We will continue to post pictures of this build as it comes together on Pirate 4x4 and our website, so stay connected, check out all of the parts that are available on our website, and enjoy!
