What size winch rope are you guys/gals running. Found 1/4" rated at 9200lbs, 5/16 @ 13,700 and 3/8 @ 20,400. Am I right to think that if snatch blocking a 9000lb winch that i would need something rated for at least 18000lbs? and if i get into the larger diameters will 100' fit in my Warn xd9000?

I look at it this way...How many times have you used 100ft of rope? I got 50 feet of 3/8ths, Hopefully i wont get stuck too much.

No, your winch line will always see as much force as the winch produces, no matter how to rig it (ignoring things like shock loads of course).

My theory with rope, though, is that while it has a static strength comperable to a similar diameter steel rope, it cannot handle shock load as well. That's why we hear so many stories of broken winch rope in spite of the often superior breaking strength rating.

I put 100' of 5/16" rope on my 8274 over two years ago, Its seen some good pulls......no breakage yet.
