Cheerleader Jeep... 1 ton edition

Driver's side is out. I want to keep my windshield washers for winter wheeling, so I will have to find a way to relocate that. Jonathan, what did you do with the ECU?

I made a rubber shield that zip tied over the mounts to keep mud and water off of it. I have since removed that and have been wheeling without it.

I think I'm going to re-locate mine right inside the tub, looks like there's room to mount it approximately the same location inside as it is mounted outside... since I have no e-brake assembly junk to deal with. As long as the clutch doesn't hit it. Might have to extend the wires a few inches, we'll see.

I'm finally getting motivated to work on this biatch. The garage is organized, the yard is done needing attention for the winter, the leaves are falling... I'm going to hole up in the garage where it's warm and get some **** done. Too bad I have to go to work tomorrow. :(

Oh yeah... try this idea on for size... a 4-link out back. Can I still be cool if I only run leafs up front? :D

I think it will be more work than I want to put into a YJ frame anyway, since I don't have the balls and dollars to hack the frame off behind the seats and buy coilovers.

I was just looking at a buddy's TJ tonight with the Nth Degree long arm kit, thinking how cool it would be....

You certainly do. I've been busy the last couple nights, and will be busy for quite a while with the grinder and sawzall. Bunch of stuff still needs to come off. The winch has to come off, then the master cylinder and all the brake lines. Steering box will come out, then the leaf springs will get unbolted and the stock mounts will get hacked off, then I've got to buy a bunch of flap wheels and grinder discs and get the front section of the frame clean... then I need to get a new bottle for the welder, and we'll be, quite literally, cooking with gas. :redneck:

Actually, first I need to start tearing the front axle down so I can get the long side shaft out and sent out to Jantz for some shortening. Hopefully it will work out properly like that, since my 60 is out of a '90 and it shouldn't be the neck-down style shafts.

Here's another thought that is totally unrelated, but since I'm sitting here bored....

I've long tossed around all kinds of ideas about keeping my Jeep "street legal" in the most basic sense... however, I started thinking about it last night, and if I could find a good deal on an '80's 4runner that needs a motor (I have one on the stand and ready to go in), I'd be set to have a good "street legal" wheeler I could take camping and exploring around here. I have a bunch of D44 parts already, including a chevy housing at my dad's shop. I would use my 5.13's, detroit, high steer arms, all the steering parts I have. Basically take the chevy housing and narrow it to use a waggy long side, throw all my parts on it, and toss it under a 4runner. Weld up the rear and add some 5.29's. Throw my 36" TSL's on it, trim accordingly, put some flaps on, and be done. :D

I might just do it.
 
i like that idea. i've got a 92 pickup thats set up perfect as a street legal wheeler, and would like to eventually build a YJ trailer queen.
 
You gonna come by some time and see it in person? Can't remember if you've even seen my new place yet. I always have some cold brew in the fridge for ya. :beer:

Well, I have them "sold", at least I have a commitment to buy them, but I haven't heard from him in a while so I'm not sure if we still have a deal or not. We'll see... it's kind of a pipe dream at this point.

Here's some tech for you: what did you do for the plumbing on your fuel cell? Did you keep the stock fuel lines that run under the body or did you replace them all the way to the rail? What fittings did you use?

PS the steering box is out, the winch is off, the springs are out, the frame is ready for some prep work tonight. I got lots of grinding to do.
