so today at work we are continuing the very wasteful clunkers deal blowing up engine after engine. well today an '88 4runner with a 22re and 5spd trans came across my toolbox and i had to do the honors of destroying a very useful and very well running engine. damn you government!!!!!

but in the end there is a very straight and very complete '88 4runner at south end auto wrecking in Kent

WTF! That sucks motors are destroyed. I wonder if the U.S. is still letting Japan ship us those 30,000mi. replacement motors? If so that has got to be the dumbest "go green" bullshit ever.

I think i'm gonna cry!! What a ****ing waste!!

So how do you go about "destroying" the engine?

drain the oil in the shop, drive it out to the back empty shut it off and pour sodium silicate (liquid glass) into the crankcase start it and give her hell still she stops spinning.

or you can have fun and just run it with no oil but that makes a mess. someone ran a 4.0l grand cherokee empty, rod came through the block, coolant everywhere

how are they making you guys prove that the engines are being disabled?

here ya go. This is on an 02 tahoe, fully loaded leather.

I have seen it done and its not all that great to see they just run then start rattling and then squeek to a stop. On a side note one shop had a 4.3 in an astro van last almost 20 min. and a grand cherokee with a 5.2 last 15 min

We've blown 30 or 40 and it's uneventful. They all just start rattling and then squeek to a stop.

We had a Ford 300 in-line 6 cyl that wouldn't die. Red-lined that pig for 20 minutes with no oil, liquid glass, and still kept running. It's amazing. I walked away after that long. Dunno when it finally died, but it did.
We're down to one left to blow and then we're done with 'em. We're going to try and send a rod thru the block on a Mazda MPV (we might just 'forget' to add the liquid glass.)

You should do a "brick it" board for the last one. Everyone pays to guess how long it will run. Closest guess wins the pot. Or if the pot will be large enough winner gets 60% and the rest buys pizza for the shop next Friday that way more people get involved. :boobies3:
