the new fattness...

James' rig with air shocks out performs mine with my coilovers in one situation or another.

I can either set up my coilovers to outperform him while wheeling or pre running, but not both situations at one time.

I have spent much, much more time tuning my shocks then he has too. If I get air bumps that might be a differnt story.

really???......
thats odd....I wouldn't have expected that answer....
I've never experienced air struts that didn't constantly bottom out when setup to be soft enough to get decent travel out of, or didn't have a tendency to really unload when pressured up enough to get decent high speed spring rate......ya, valving helps, but only so much....

we'll see how the TJ's work out, they're going to be cheap, and I can (and most likely WILL) change it later...

BTW,

what'd your rig end up weighing????.....

and what's Jame's rig weigh??

did some playing last night.....

think I like the way this is going to look on the bed....

Yeah you have to have the air shocks setup really well but same goes for the coilover IMO. Lots of people try and run their air shocks at 1.5" of travel and I think thats why they dont work better.

Your right though. You need to run enough pressure that they dont bottom out. That makes them want to unload. If you run a sway bar though like you should with a coilover or air shock it will reduce the side to side unloading and then the down hill unloading can be reduced with a small winch in the back.

If you were to do coilover airs then you dont need to run so much N2 in them since you are now depending on springs for spring rate and you get alot of benefits that the air shock gives you.

Either way to get a really good working suspension its tons of $$$$.

Coils and good shocks are not a bad way to go, sucky thing is that a good pair of shocks is almost the same as air shocks. Hell you could even do an air shock in conjunction with your TJ springs and then rid yourself of the TJ springs when you have more money for the coilover springs.

Thinking about this some more.....

If you were to buy airshocks as your shock you wouldnt even need new springs. You could use what you already have since they wouldnt compress as much with the airshock supporting some weight.

Mine is ~4600 full of tools, me and fuel. ~4150 without me, tools but with fuel.

James' ~3500. He dosent carry many tools.

4500 if you wheel with me, since I have to carry the welder :flipoff:

Yeah, he was bummed at first but now he's living up the time off. They are running fordice or the con, cant remember which, in sept. After that, he'll get to finding a J O B.

He says he's been driving it around (the yard?) a bit. Needed a new front DS, shocks in front, maybe a bumper, and he needed to put nuts on all of the bolts.

Roobercon trip kicks off in 10 days.....
