4l80e tranny wont move

right now it is a stock tranny that came out of a 'running vehicle' ,, so the guy is lying,, or something simple is wrong,

Ok.. took pan off last night. The guy we got it from must have cleaned it up good before we bought. Pan was clean when we put filter on.
Its crap now . Black as diesel oil. We got screwed. Tranny is no good.
