What year did the Rangers go fuel injected? Hunting down some old Rangers, and would rather not deal with a carb in my old age.

86 with the 2.9, better off with a 4.0 from 90-97.

4.0's are out of my current price range. Had one in my '93 and liked it, but I'm looking cheapie, and would almost prefer a 2.3 to the 2.9. Were the 2.3's 86 also?

2.3 has been available forever. I have one with 8 spark plugs in my 95. I think 87-88 was the first year for efi.

2.3 went EFI in 1985. It's throttle body, IIRC multi port came out early 90's and is a much better system.

The 2.0 however... is ball less and was carb'd to the end in '88. Avoid those.
Are you wanting a 2wd? 4x4? Avoid the 85 and later auto too.. the A4LD brings teh suck.

4X4 would be nice, but not necessary, I'm just fine with a 2wd.
x2 Just make sure you get a later one with the good heads, the early ones were prone to cracking, the easy way to tell is the later (better) ones had the lip on the valvecover turned up, the older ones were turned down.
