I currently have a '91 Chevy K1500 4x4 with the TBI 350 (152k), 700r4 trans and 3.42 gears. There is a guy who may trade me straight across for a '95 Ford F250 Super Cab (144k) with the 460 and a manual tranny with 3:55's. I've been thinking of getting into hauling off junk cars for extra money so a heavier truck would be ideal, but that 460 is making me leery. I would say towing mpg isn't going to be much different between the two and the 1/2 ton I have isn't going to like heavier loads. My Samurai plus trailer is around 4800 pounds which is not quite my 1/2's full capacity but I think I may have a struggle keeping it in one piece with the 700r4 that doesn't have the greatest track record.

A friend says to go with the Ford F250 w/460 because it will tow anything you put behind it and the mileage won't be that bad with the manual tranny but I'm expecting maybe 7-8 mpg towing as opposed to possibly 10 with my TBI350.

Any thoughts?

I had a 96 F250 4x4 with 460/5sp/4.10gears, It got 10.5 towing my 4runner/12 unloaded

DO NOT TRADE!!!!! A 2wd Ford that body style isn't "worth" anything. People lose their minds over 88-98 4wd Chevys. Slap some Z71 stickers on it and sell it for enough to buy two of those Fords :****:

$1500 truck vs a truck that can still bring $7500 with good paint

Agreed!!!

Actually I forgot to add the Ford is also 4x4. I think the guy has backed out I think he believes he can get a better trade than my truck. Its been sitting a while and hes sick of looking at it. Im sure my truck could do the job so maybe Ill use it awhile.

x2

I had a 95 cab chassis F350 4x4 with a 460 that I paid $1800 for, and my buddy had a 91 F250 4x4 ext cab 351W/5spd that he paid $1700 for.

IMO early-mid 90s Fords are a lot better trucks than chevys of the same era, but the BowTies will still bring stupid money.

Just like Tacomas... Stupid expensive.

EDIT: Just read that the F250 is 4x4 also. Yeah, I'd trade.

Guys, we sold a junky 1995 ex cab gmc with 160k miles and fresh camo clad for $13,000 :****: No 199anything Ford will bring that, no matter how stupid the buyer

I found another one though. An 89 with a straight body w only 87k original miles. Its a 460 with the 3 speed auto and he wants to trade me but the AC doesn't work on the truck bug he is willing to fix it if we trade.
