I am looking for advise from some of old guys that know more then I. I have a 1968 firebird, Its in pretty good shape but is sitting with no motor and trans. Im tired of having other projects and it just sit in the garage collecting dust. Here is the car now.

My plan:
6.0 with around 400 RWHP
4l80e
8.8 with 3.73 gears
Front and rear disc brake ( has drum front and rear now)
Rebuild all the front suspension
Repaint car gloss block
Do some kind of aftermarket seats, shifter, and a aftermarket gauge pod.
Do a 400 hood.
I really would like to get rid of my wheels and go to some 18" front and 20" rear wheels.
Then slam the car down

I really like this bird (besides the orange interior)

Any advise

I love everything about that bird and your plans sound like a fun ass ride. :driving:

Add a blower or you're a *****. It'll make Nickleback sound better. thumb.gif

Do you realize how much money you're going to have in one of those, and then when you get tired of it (as soon as its finished) what you will get out of it?

Everything I've built or had built has lost money in the end. Everything I've bought done then tweaked and used for a couple years has minted money.
I have a current conundrum down this path right now. I own a badass Featherlite enclosed, but its not dec'd out on the inside. So I can dump $5-8k on insullaction, interior alum for the walls, alum cabinets, a/c, awning. Or I can sell mine and likely get that trailer I would build for $3-4k more than mine with zero weekends, and nights burnt.

Just saying....

I won't be selling this car my dad bought it in high school and I bought it from him. I will never sell this car. I'm not looking to build a 80k car.

im not an old guy, but why an 8.8 and not a 9?

Just because I cant get them cheap. Explorers had them with 3.73 gears, disc brakes, limited slip and 31 spline axles stock.

Troy allen is his dad, he's like 42 and doesn't drink or party. Doubt he was in the same place as you in the past unless he was on the way to church and you were crawling out of a gutter molaugh :flipper:

You may remember him from a green late 70's Ford shortbed on 44's around late 80's.

DAMMIT MAN!! I got kids almost as old as you :****: Late 80's I was raising kids and doin' the 9 to 5 in the big city. The square in P-town and 6th street in Oz were like a big old car show on saturday nights. Anyway, love your project, sounds way cool. You don't see near as many 'birds as Camaros. Adds to the cool factor!! thumb.gif thumb.gif thumb.gif thumb.gif
