Cage Material

Draco, how are you mounting the bottom front plate on your rzr cages?

Three holes in the diff plate. 2 in the front and 1 in the back. That one is 1/4" plate. Acts like a shovel though, rather come out the winch mount.

I chose 1.5" .120 dom for my cage and bumpers. Saved 30lbs compared to the same amount of tube in 1.75" .120 dom. My cage and bumpers weigh roughly 123lbs

This is a retarded question considering the owner buuuut........you got pics?

I use 1.75" .120 HREW for most all my stuff. Roughly 2lbs/ft....1.5" is about 1.5lb./ft.

All that....You're prolly gonna use about 100'.
from what I've seen (and never weighed) 1.5 x .095 is just under 1.5 lb/ft and 1.75 .095 is 1.65 lb/ft. in .120 the 1.5 is 1.77 and 1.75 is 2.
about .25 of a lb per foot. 100' is 25 lbs. carry less beer or go on a diet.

thanks, it's nice to see the actual numbers.....not really that much of a difference

1 3/4 120 wall, and like Cole said I could definitely tell a difference in the handling over the stock cage.

Good stuff! I didn't see chromoly tube mentioned anywhere. Obviously tig vs mig n such for welding but what other caveats are there? Is it worth the cost to increase the HP to Weight ratio vs just doing some engine motor upgrades? :dunno: Thoughts there?

I used hrew bc of the price difference between it and DOM. With the RZR bein so light I'm in no way concerned bout splittin a tube. I've front flipped my RZR hard enough to shatter my seat brackets and knock me out while wearin my harnesses and the cage showed no damage

Sounds about right for the weight. I know our 2100 lbs buggy rolls and the DOM shows no sign of issues. So RzR are a good bit lighter..... So I guess Chromoly tube is way overkill especially for the price and trouble of welding.... :dunno:

about $7/ft, but if most are using .095 DOM, does that mean go .083 on 4130? I'd say no dent resistance and you better brace it. These things have long spans unsupported (door opening) just like a buggy does, same human gets in and out. Hate to have something that thin over me.
Buddy with an .095 DOM cage on his 1k cartwheeled behind the house last weekend, dented the **** out of it everywhere and bent the down bars and both bumpers into the plastic.
