is there anything wrong with a dana 60 out of an early 90's dodge? goods/bads?

thanks in advance

james:corn:

late model dodge kingpins like 89-93 are good because they have internal locking hubs (typical ford/chevy style.) By buddy got one out of a wrecked 1st gen cummins, pretty much a narrower chevy axle. Hit up the Dana 60 bible on pirate for more info :awesomework:

The KP units are 2" narrower than a Chevy, and IIRC the spring perch centers are a touch wider as well.

Other than that, and external vs internal locking hubs they are for all intents identical (or atleast real similar)

watch out for the dana 61 if your looking for low gears on the cheap stay away :;

thanks for the link bud, i have not seen the front axles yet but i was told they were kingpen 60's, i will have to read up on that bible....

instead of a hub and spindle there is a sealed bearing unit that bolts to the knuckel and your rim bolts to that. no lockout hub.

has a vacuum disconnect for the passenger axel which weakens everything.

the link was a search results with three threads here talking about dodge dana 60 axels on this forumn.

the pirate bible will tell you what you need to know if its anything other than a unit bearing.

FWIW.....in the near future I will "probably" be selling the axles out of my tow rig.Dodge kingpin front 60 and a 35 spline Dana 70 rear. They are out of a running/driving '92 ram 250.Also the 205 T-case will be for sale

unit bearing instead of a hub and spindel.

Hip- thanks for the explination and the picture:hi:

I'm kinda at a crossroads in my tow rig situation. I have the Gen I cummins truck that I use now with a trailer that I barrow from Jason at S-N.The drivetrain is solid but the truck chassis/cab/bed is FUBAR and kinda gross. I can't bring my self to put any more time in to make the truck "better" as it's kinda pointless

Via jobless and MD69 I have aquired back the three axle "Red,White and Blue" Crew cab Ford with the 460/C-6/Sterling 10.25 drive axle that I put in it when I owned it.The ford needs a couple little things and it will be up and running and doesn't require a trailer as the buggie climbs on back.

The Dodge has more value to me parted out.I still owe the guy I bought the Dodge from some $ and would pay him off.I'll keep the Cummins and the 727 and may put those in the Ford along with a Dually Dana 80 single rear axle insted of the semi float tandems.

Welcome to the world of low budget tow rigs:rolleyes:

from what i hear that cummins does wonders to the ford:awesomework: my bro has an 03 7.3 6spd he is waiting for the 7.3 to take a **** and then he is putting in a 12vavle:cool:

I disagree... they can be a pain if you want to run a numerically higher ratio than a 4.88 but otherwise essentially the same except for a ring spacer for the numerically higher gear ratios. The spacers are available from reiderracing.com
