Grooving TSLs

I have a couple of 38 TSL bias that are pretty much gone in the center that I'm going to use for spares. I was wondering how deep you can groove them. Thanks Marc

To the chords! On a bald tire usually 3/16 deep or so depending how bald they really are in the center

Thanks. My buddy was supposed to drop by today with the groover. May do my other tires with about 10 rides on them if I get good enough with it.

In the very center you can go almost 1/2 before you see cords. Just go slow, watch close, then set you stop and go to town. :woody:

I've got a buddy who works at a tire shop it is a groover that hooks to an air compressor that spins it doesn't heat up at all. I think they use it for like loader tires and stuff like that

I thought that the irok in the picture was cut with a piece of tubing. I saw some rail buggy tires cut with a sharped piece of tubing on a cordless drill. Looked just like the Irok tire in the picture.

Finally got around to trying out the groover and here's what I ended up with. Not real creative but not bad for my first time and it's just a spare. May do a bit more cross cuts. Before and after pics.

I had a buddy from a tire shop tell me about those groovers so I took a cheap hole saw.and sharpened it up like a knife blade on the bench grinder to hack into my XZL's. It worked great and fast as it takes oit wide strips and will cut for as.long a run as you can control it for. It was kinda difficult to controle the depth of the cut the first time around, hit the steel belts in a couple spots....
