Thought Id give this one a try. Ive got a 4.2 liter normally aspirated inline six (two valve) toyota diesel in my land cuiser. AFTER I changed over to synthetic oil the engine started to "tick". This is the way it goes:

I start the truck and it sounds very normal. Within two to four minutes this "ticking" starts. Quiet at first, but once it starts within a minute or minute and a half its louder than the diesel engine its self! At first I thought it was a lifter, but the ticking sound follows the engine RPM perfectly. I dont have a tow rig and I dont want to drive it anywhere to get it looked at.

Thoughts. Any help would be appreciated.

Well the obvious answer of changing back to standard oil seems to scream at me. :redneck: Piston slap?
