So I got a 3.8 Buick in the kids rig. Rear engine. I have very limited space for exhaust. And it will be pretty short. My request has been to have it pretty quiet. So my question is this. What short mufflers will keep the sound levels down and fit in a tight space?

I thought of running two 10in cherry bombs. One off the headwea and one after the bend heading out of the rig. But I have to waste time and money. What are your thoughts.

Do you have the space to reverse the header to point forward so you can wrap the tube around the motor and back or a 90? This would possibly help fitting a longer/bigger case next to the motor. Pics would help if ya got em, but mini mufflers and quiet are usually at opposite ends of the spectrum.
I don't have much room. You can see the bar behind the motor that the rad sits on. And the dead space behind it I was hoping to leave clear if possible to have a spot for a cooler and spare tire. I was hoping do come out of the chassis just in front of the radiator.

I would think any sort of stock Motorcycle muffler would be great in this case? They flow pretty good compared to how quiet they are, and if you can't find one you feel is big enough just fit two instead

You can also look at adding a quarter wave resonator.

Easy to package in addition to muffler.

Also wrapping the exhaust will help keep resonance down. Also putting a firewall behind the seats with sound deadener will help absorb the noise.

I have the same issue on my rig. It's a Toyota based rig with a 10-series Flowmaster (I believe), so it sounds like a pissed-off ricer burner at anything above idle. Considered putting a OEM resonator in front of the muffler or even a flow-through muffler like a Cherry Bomb pre-muffler to try to help. I have very little room vertically or horizontally, so trying to introduce more sound reduction along the length of the exhaust.

This is similar to what I currently have. Fairly loud off idle.

Also considered an in-tube auger type noise reducer.

I have the 3 disc on my buggy and on a deleted duramax. They work excellent and are adjustable.

I bought what the muffler shop called a tube turbo one time, look just like a glass pack, but was very quiet and cheap. Just google it, there are plenty of them out there.

Running the same turbo style as mention above. These may be one of easier ways to package a muffler and still be somewhat not loud. Using one on each bank of a 5.3 but would like something even more quiet.

I run this Flowmaster on my SC3800.

I wish I'd gone a little longer to try and help make it quieter for comps. It sounds pretty good for being a 6 cylinder, but not as quiet as I'd hoped for crawling. I can't hear my spotter and it's a nuisance. I plan to add something behind it, even if it's just some bends to knock it down a touch or move the noise further back.

You use one of the nastiest and loudest mufflers you could have, lol. 1 chamber 10 series is the go to muffler for big blocks and telling your neighbors neighbor to piss off! Built LS motors sound killer with em too. Ditch it for any "turbo" muffler and you'll be good to go.

For us and trail/spotter use I'm really starting to appreciate quiet (mine isnt) so I don't have to scream to my spotter or shut off.
The muffler came on the rig when I got it, and I'm sure the PO went that route for how compact it is. Unfortunately, that also means it's pretty loud :-/

I'm leaning towards using this to replace the 10-series. Would likely go with the 18" length for maximum quiet.
