I'm thinking about putting a spool in the rear end of my daily driver which is a 1983 Toyota Pickup on 35s and I've heard it eats the back tires up so I'm just wanting some opinions on if I should do it or if there would be a better way to lock the rear end for a Low Price

Re:

Yes it eats the back tires. Also makes it easier to slide the rear end on wet roads.

I've daily driven 2 Toyotas and a full size bronco with welded rears.

Just weld it, see if you can live with it. If not, swap an open carrier back in (which you can get for free or damn near).

Then you are only out a few bucks for rtv and oil.

If you change your driving style some ( slow down in the rain, no hard turns in parking lots, etc) it's not to bad.

I also put a Aussie locker in the back of the Toyota, it works OK, but also requires a driving style change (coasting around corners and such, since it will lock any time you get on the gas)

I have ran a fozzy locked rear diff in 3 or 4 different daily drivers. It allows a small amount of twist in the spiders but ultimately is welded. Most of my driving is in town too.
