Jake Brakes

Jake brake on a personal truck is just cool. I use mine all the time, in MY fire truck. Does it come with a high-med-low setting as well?

What you show is a brand of exhaust brake made by Jacobs electronics. A jake brake is built into a engine not a external part. When a Jake brake is used it lets the compression out of the cylinders. "Jake" is a slang term for "compression" brake.......
A Jake has never came on any light truck that I'm aware of.

An engine brake is built in (cam, solenoids, etc...)...Jake Brake is a brand name...get it :awesomework:

It's ok...I know the brothers are a little slow as I have not typed in it out in ebonics :haha::fawkdancesmiley:

So you think the signs on the side of the road that say "no Jake brake" or something as such is directed specifically at what you have in your truck?.....
I agree Jacobs electronics is a brand and they make many things.......

I've never seen a "no Jake brake" sign. I have seen lots of "Compression Braking Prohibited" signs, though.

Jake is just a brand name. The ACTUAL term is "compression brake".

what was the point of this thread anyway?:eeek:

this reminds me....
of ppl who THINK they have a cyclone fence:rolleyes:

I see the link you posted isn't a exhaust brake, I didn't read it before.:haha: It's not a exhaust brake but it's not a true compression brake either the way I understand it.....
Was that a factory item or a dealer installed item?

The one he linked to as being in his truck looks like an exhaust brake to me.

And it was probably a dealer installed option. My Jacobs exhaust brake was.

At any rate, Jacobs became synonymous with engine brakes. When I hear the term Jake brake, I think of a true engine brake. Not the add on exhaust brakes we use on our pickups, even if they were manufacured by the Jacobs company.

Jacobs was bought out years ago by Cummins. If you've been around this stuff for more then just a few years, before it became a popularity thing. A jake brake was ALWAYS considered a compression brake. You can't even call your exhaust brake a "jake brake" because it was slang anyways. If you want to bitch about it, you have a JACOBS brake, not a jake brake. My Dad has a Jacobs brake on his 05 and even he knows better then to call it a Jake brake :looser:. Rookies.

Oh and brad your Jacobs brake didn't come installed from the factory, it came installed from the dealer.. The 6.7 is the first to ever get one installed from the factory.

No, I'm saying that people, including the folks in the DOT crews that created and erected those signs, are misinformed.

The simple fact is this...

Jake Brake is a registered trade mark of Jacobs Vehicle Systems Inc. that they use for their product line...amatuers

you are obviously new to trucking... Go ahead and call em. Ask them how the name started. Think it's an exhaust brake? The only reason they'd call an exhaust brake a jake brake is to make the customer feel cool about what he is buying. Because for some reason people who have no background in the industy seem to think it's the cool thing to do.

And a dodge dealership is pivately owned.. It is NOT dodge. amatuer

Obviously new, I was driving bigger diesels truck in the army while you were still jerking off to the womens underwear section in the Sears catalog

I never made any claims that my Dodge came with an Engine or Compression Brake...it came with an Exhaust Brake...a Jake Brake as per Jacobs, that's all.

If you are so ignorant that you can't see the difference you might as well put some penguin wings on your Dodge so you can fly :awesomework:

Privately owned yes, but the factory warranty from Dodge is honored where again? The Dealer...ding ding ding we have a winner :haha:
