• Help Support Hardline Crawlers :

96 Ford 7.3 hard start

Well just got around to replacing the glow plugs and doing updated injector/glow plug connectors and it seemed to do the trick.

a little late, but since most toothless hillbillys dont have load clamps etc....

tale a good old fasioned test light with an incadecent bulb, take the pointy end and stick it into the gap in the neg battery terminal on the drivers side. conect the aligator clamp to the side of the relay that DOESNT light up with the key off. turn the key on, watch for a light, listen for the relay to click. if the relay clicks and the light doesnt come on, its bad....
10 second test with a common tooll almost every one has....

want to test the glow plugs them selves?
unplug harneses going thru the vc's. connect aligator clip to the hot side of the relay. touch pointy end to any goround to make sure it works. if your harnesses have 4 connecters, touch the pointy end to the outer terminals of each one. if it only has 2 connectors, its the 2 wires on ethier end.

usualy only takes 5 min for this test.
less than 10 min and you tested the system....

Get someone with Ford diesel tech knowledge to check the injector pump timing as well. Had that problem with a 200,000 mile '91 E350 7.3 and they said the motor was just worn out. Tech guy at the RV shop dialed it in for $250 and it started like a dream with more power and better fuel economy ever since. (shop truck that everyone abused and I was the only one that checked oil, etc)

Powerstrokes don't have an injector pump... :awesomework: COMPLETELY different beast than the IDI 7.3L
