I don't understand what you are asking?

gears are gears, (unless they are for a high pinion diff, but that would be pretty obvious, because the teeth are angled backwards from a "regular" gear set)

I've never personally swapped a ring and pinion out before and didn't know if the made a set for front that is different from the rear r&p or the were all the same. I guess part 2 of my question was how can you tell if its a set I know the third he gave me has a 529 setup in it but the ring and pinion in the pic, that are loose, are they a set or different, and is there away to tell by the numbers on em. Basically how can ya tell if a r&p go together and is there a "front" and "rear" set or it universal as long as its 8inch, yoda, and not high pinion.

Nah there is only low pinion (either front or rear) then high pinion 8" gears,

There are 2 different pinion head lengths (short pinion head and long pinion head) in the low pinion gears, but you can set either type up in any housing (4cy or 6 cyl) with the proper shims.

I don't know about how to tell if the gears are matched, I'd just assume that they are and install them. If they are used gears they can be hard to get a good pattern anyway. Ring and pinions wear together and become a "matched pair", they don't start out that way.

Unless you are doing a bunch of road driving, then I don't think it will matter even they aren't "matched"

from what i've read there's supposed to be numbers on the ring and pinion that indicate if they belong together.....search on pirate for billavista's diff setup article

Yeah i would definitely add a chunk of plate between the spider gears and weld it all solid
X3

Friend of mine just broke his welded rear because the spiders were just welded to each other.

Thanks Neal and Nick, I've got a Detroit in my front axle and a Yukon spool in the rear and the gears will go on those l don't do that welded diff **** no offence to any one who does but I'll spend money were it counts and do it right thumb.gif

Re: Re: Ring and Pinion ?

Its no offense, however, you'll see that the spools deflect more than a welded carrier.. Just food for thought.

Please explain that not sure what u mean deflect more??? Still learning a lot so please explain I'd figured spool was stronger and they did same as welded diff

Well didn't know that I've got a good carrier so if the spool ****s up I'll weld up it and give it a shot thank for the info

Well what I gather from the Bella vista site I have the wrong pinion does any one o e here have a spare 529 pinion theyd sell would buy a new set but strapped for cash right now having to rebuild my knuckles completely my high steer arms won't work with the trunnion eliminator kit I got and still have never got to take it wheeling bout to give up and sell it every time I improve 1 time 3 other things I find are ****ed up

What info did you use to deduce that your pinion was wrong? none of the "markings" on your ring gear give any pertainent info except it's a 5.29 set (37 ring gear teeth, 7 pinion gear teeth). if the pinion has 7 teeth, then I'd set it up.

Oh yeah, and the bigger quesiton is, why do you want to put 5.29 gears in it? If it has 4.10s that are not broken, I'd stick with that (unless you are planning on doing a bunch of road driving and "need" to regear.

Any why wont your trunnion eliminator kit work with your histeer arms? Is the hole in your histeer arms 1" instead of 3/4" like the trunnion eliminator pins? If so, any small machine shop should spin you out some steel bushings and press the 2 arms together for not much money. (or if you can find someone with a lathe or access to one, it would be super simple to make)

The info on the site Neal suggested 37-7 means r.g. has 37 teeth and pinion has 7 if I under stand it right had the wife count pinion teeth and there are 15 like the stamp on pinion shaft I could be wrong. And front range high steer arms are 1 piece arms, look in the thread were I'm trying to sell em the trunnion race pin is made into the arm and does press out

No toyota pinion ever has 15 teeth... So unless the pinion you have is not from a Toyota, then yeah, your wife mis-counted...

I ran into the same problem with the one piece arms (stock low steer arms made the same way) when I wanted to use a trunnion elim kit, so I made these

Its a'15 tooth pinion had her send me a pic last night so its not Toyota and I guess I'm gonna try and modify em to accept the t.b.e kit might go to a machine shop like u said lm limited to regular hand tools power drills & grinders and my crown jewel a miller 185, working on more.Theres a guy at the shop in town that runs a lathe and a mill so I'll have him drill it out for me. But thanks for your help dude I appreciate it I owe ya one
