does anyone on here make custom sub inclosures? soon i will be needing one for my runner... stereo place wants $800:wtf:

box will be for two twelves i could easily make my own inclosure but i no there is a formula to building boxs depending on the area in your car/box/subs.. i no it makes a hell of a differance in sound quality when all these factors are takin into consideration when buiding a custom inclosure correctly

what kind of box? what kind of subs? Normal, custom, weird?

guess i should have explained tht alittle better huh?:D

subs are 2 12in JL W3's ah depending on pricing it would be cool to put the subs inside the box with a plexiglass window... i want it vented for sure

Why do you want a ported box I personally like sealed boxs better
 
i have a sealed box right now. and my stereo knocks tough but it's to big and bulky... i am in the process of rasing the cargo area of the runner 6 inches or so to make room for spare parts and what not so i want a shorter box and i would like to possible tilt the subs up a few degrees
 
forgot

sealed box = more power handling with better control

ported box = less power handling with no control lower than tuned output frequency

can you explain what a ported box is? correct me cause im probably wrong... is a vented box the same as ported?

or is a ported box basically when both subs in one box don't have a wall so to speak between the two?

my 12in box is sealed and is huge! roughly 30in wide15in deep and 15 tall... is it possible to make it smaller and be vented and still have good sound quality?

ported= rap

sealed= evereything else+rap

sealed also requires more power usually thats the only downside i know of.

it all depends on the air space. Are yours dvc or svc

alright well i like a huge range of music including rap... i usually turn the subs down when i listen to anything other then metal and rap..


i doubt the watts are true pyle dryver amp with suposdly(sp) 3600 watts :rolleyes:

also running a bass cap

again i have no idea what dvc or svs mean so im not sure.. as far as air space in the rig i think i have alot it's a full bodies 88 runner

Sorry are they a dual voice coil sub or a single voice coil. But if your running even remotely close to what that amp claims to put out at rms would guess dual.

By airspace I was referring to what air space the subs need inside the box to run properly not the truck.

oh okay yes they are dual voice coil. and thats the thing i don't no how much air space there needs to be in the box... is there a web site or formula to figure out how much air space i need? maybe i need to call JL and ask them how much air space is needed?

A bass cap? Are you talking a external crossover or a capaciter ? I guess does it look like a big version of a "AA" battery

I've ran 2 extant 10's in a sealed box in a 95 s10 and at one of the db comps my truck hit 130 db's not to bad. Considering they are single voice coil lower budget subs.

Thats the nice thing about jl's there site is usually good for info if you know the exact make of them 12w3v2 I'm guessing

yea a capaciter i have a couple of crossovers but again i have no idea what they do or if they will put more bass to the subs or what?

also where could i go find out what kind of db's i am gettin?

A good crossover will not give you more bass but cleaner and more precise bass.

Now days I have no clue I used to have friends that worked at magnolia and tech auto sound in lynnwood. Both places used to have "DB" drags as they called them I would talk to car toys there about the only ones that I would think still do it. Magnolia is gone and so is tech auto :booo:

what is a passive crossover coil?

and what is a bi-amplified system?

bi amp means using multiple amps to power other speakers in the system as well as the sub. Don't run a 5 channel amp and try to power everything with one amp. Run a "D" class sub amp to power the subs

A passive crossover is in line between the amp and sub. They are saying use an electronic one like what is usually built into your amp. Or buy an aftermarket electronic crossover like audio control or the like. I personally am a fan of audio control they are based out of washington down on 220th and are REALLY REALLY good about customer service. Unless you are planning to do a really nice system youdon't really need an external crossover.

Ah they may have the stuff to test your db's if you ask them.

If you have the room in the back of your rig you could build the sealed box design that jl has listed it's only 23" wide by 14" tall by 10" deep so for two you would need a 46"w x 14"t x 10"d
