It's been explained before as the compressor wheel doing a burn out in the air. One of the drop in ford turbos was designed with a surge line so high on the map that its almost impossible to make it surge. But you sacrafice airflow for that.

All turbos surge. Just depends on if you can create the right situation to make it surge. If this is all your going to do with the truck, the ATS houseing is a good way to go. The other wheel does it too. if you run in extream a lot and see a lot of the top end of the boost gauge, the turbos...

heres the injector issue. In the 94.5-97 trucks they used AA code injectors. Rated at 90cc's of flow. The CA emitions trucks from 96 and 97 had ab code injectors that flowed 120cc's. The Super Dutys have AD code injectors that flow 130cc's. Some of the eraly trucks 94.5-95 had some issues with...
