Front and rear line locks to eliminate a portion of the system if you break a line is my solution beyond protecting the lines at all cost. A simple ball valve will do it. Also doubles as parking brake.

I'd wonder how far off the case temperature would be from the fluid temperature at that location. Doesn't really matter what you are reading as long as it is indicating accurately enough.

I hear you. And it isn't a criticism, just the way I look at it. They will eventually be as common as harnesses. With popularity comes insurance costs. On that same note, some consider the weight savings worth it to not have fire extinguishers I'm sure.

It is really just a matter of how important it is to you and your risk tolerance. I'm sure some make sure they have room for a 40qt cooler, spare tire, tools, stereo, etc. Seems like a shoe box sized insurance policy isn't too crazy of thing to prioritize.

I have the Simpson Vortex. They have a removeable bottom cushion that I pull out if I am washing with a couple of smallish holes to allow drainage. Roughly 25" from the seat cushion to the harness hole centers and 30.5" to the top of the seat.

I don't know the exact fittings or sizes, but pretty much open up any fittings that you can or purchase higher flow fittings. I don't think anyone does any major work other than the spool valve and perhaps using a drill bit here and there. There is definitely math involved that could optimize...
