Went down this morning and yanked the distributor first thing. My gut has been telling me dist. the whole time. Upon further inspection, the magnetic pick up for the cam position sensor was cracked. Put the new distributor in, and she fired right up!!!! :D . . .. . . .. . . . . . . . . . ...

Thanx Rix. I'm gonna take a bigger hammer with me on Friday. I picked up a distributor, MAF, and computer. Gonna start with the dist. and go from there.

Also, checked stored codes via the check engine light. Came up with a 14 which is ignition signal. Wonder if I should be looking at ignitor... To answer another question that was asked, this thing sounds completely normal and healthy when cranking on it. I have never heard a car crank normal...

If the belt had jumped, wouldn't it have a valve(s) open at the wrong time and give me low compression in one of the cylinders?

Well, did a compression test. Starting at number 1, it has 150, 130, 150, 130

Hmmmm. Brings up another question. Since this is a dual overhead cam motor, if the belt did jump a tooth, is there gonna be bent valves? Is there clearance if it is only one or two teeth? Or do the heads need to come off if I find the belt has jumped?

Do not know history of the belt. He just got out of the army not too long ago and bought the car from someone being sent oversees, so no real easy way to get ahold of previous owner. Not a penny will be spent till compression test is done.

UGH - So I got wrong info from the guy at the parts house. I was told that this thing had a 20r. However, my buddy at Napa today informed me that they didn't use the 20r in a front wheel drive car. So as of now, here is what I believe to be true. It is in fact an 1988, front wheel drive...

Thanx for all the replies so far guys! I will do a compression test next. Seems the easiest and most logical at this point. Couple things to point out: -This is a chain motor, not a belt motor (timing chain). Don't know if that makes a difference in your opinion of it jumping timing (I have...

This is a car, not a truck. I appologize. Trying to help a guy in need get his car running again so he can try to get back to work. Here is what I know: 88 toy celica gt 140K miles (4 cyl 5 speed) (not sure which 4 cyl it has cause the sticker on valve cover is gone). He was driving down...

transfer ID plates to WA plates

Crash is right. When Jason and I both bought our trucks in Texas, we no longer needed to get them inspected. Just take the paperwork in, pay a bunch of money, and viola! You get a new title and plates.

    4.3 question.

The spacing on the flexplate is different on that 2000 vortec than it is on an older chev that the turbo 350 was bolted to. You have 2 problems going on here. One: it is trying to pull the torque converter off of the tranny, and 2: since it can't pull it all the way, it is flexing the flex...

    Deathwobble - 08 Cummins

Yep, seen it a bunch on the dodge trucks. The leveling kit slightly changed your caster. Very, very common problem!! Try playing with the caster shims on the lower link bolts on the axle.
