I would like to buy a camper for the truck I have a Ford F250 super duty 7.3 long box extended cab. I will also be pulling a trailer with the heep behind so weight may be an issue.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

I would like a shower, crapper, and I am 6.2 so i would like to stand up right but I don't want it too tall.

What brands should I be looking at? New or used?

What else should I be thinking about?
any dealers you would recommend or just buy some piece of crap off Craig

standing 6'2" might be a problem, I'm the same height and haven't found a camper that I can stand up in without feeling like I'm going to hit my head...most of the newer campers are going to be alot taller because of the basement compartments, fiberglas campers are heavier but also warmer... and don't buy new, find a used one, also one with a slideout is nice, i was surprised by the extra room they give you... yea I'm still looking for one...

Yes, FiFo and I were talking about that.

You can buy a gently used camper for less than half the original owner paid. Most are 2-3 years old too. Buying new is just not a good idea with campers.

For the price of a brand new camper you could buy a used motorhome and have WAY more space. Granted it aint gonna be no diesel pusher, but still a nice motorhome.

PS. For campers Arctic Fox's kick ass.

Keep your eye on the weight of the camper you are looking for.

The average 8.5' campers weighs 1,900lb (dry weight) and a 10' footer will be about 2,300lbs. Weight will be an issue when towing a trailer behind your truck and camper. The average 8.5 camper is OK for a 3/4 ton, and the 9.5' -10' are more for 1ton rigs. I have a 8.5 Elkhorn and flat toe my jeep with my 3/4 ton. My buddy has a 11' camper and trailers his jeep, but he had to add air bags to keep his 1 ton from sagging.

A new 8.5' camper will start at about $15,000. If you have the cash you can find a used one for around 5-8k on craigslist in the mid to late 90"s.

The amount of money you spend will depend on how good of a camper you will get.

Good luck in your search :awesomework:

I have a Ciatation 10'8" camper. It has a dry bath which means the shower is off to the side of the bath with a shower curtain. The shower has a skylite above the shower. I am 6'3" and am comfortable in the shower. I've noticed other camper makes with the skylight above the shower.

I have a F-350 w/7.3 and a dually. With camper on the rig is 0ver 12,000lbs. When towing the entire setup is right at 20,000lbs. Been all over the SW USA never had a problem. I think your F250 s/b fine.

Note I now have an enclosed trailer and those are the weights quoted.

Hey scott, if u dont have a set of camper tie downs, i have a set i'll sell ya. Torklifts, reciever style so u can remove the outer piece and dont have to bang your knees on them

i have an old 69 something camper. im 6'2 and can stand easily in it. but mines 8' with no head or shower....its kinda a drag. but on plus side i have tons of storage room.

but im gonna switch to a gooseneck setup i think. i dont like having a camper on a shortbed

What are you thinking with the goose please give me more detail?

Craigslist. We had a pretty good list to choose from when we bought ours. Just go looking.

We got an 8.5 footer with external shower, it isn't really that big, but I think you could stand up in it.

I've been weighing the options. a 34-38' toyhauler has enough space to actually fit a rig in. has the genset, shower, head, range and stove, abd confort all there. but that more than likely means another payment i would have to add, because they are spendy.

then i have been pondering the camper on the flatbed trailer idea. i would have to get a new camper, but a good used one can still be found fair priced with all the goodies. its cheaper, i can put more weight on the trailer, and ill get more space on the deck. so i can run the rig and other random toys. then when i get to my destination. i can unhook the trailer and still have the tow rig to run into town if necessary. i dont like having to take the camper off the truck unless im back at home.

but after going to moses this weekend and looking at a couple of the big toy haulers, im leaning way more towards the camper/trailer setup. because if its a weekend trip its gonna get used. im so done with tents. if its a day trip i just use the regular flatbed.

i dunno if any of that was useful but there ya go:awesomework:

it just comes down to i have a short bed and its sucks with a camper and trailer. id rather just have it all back there on a gooseneck with the weight over the axle.

Well that is not to far off some of the things I have been thinking about but I am leaning towards a shorter over all length I also need to get a trailer so at the moment my options are open...

i can understand the length. if it was my only trailer i woudn't want to go uber long either. im just to the point where when i go on weekend/week trips, im not digging my setup

My Time is a very big factor so I am also thinking about what can I setup in the shortest time possible to go play on the weekends.

I'm going this route gooseneck trailer with camper on trailer that way when I'm done wheeling I park the gooseneck and I have a empty truck:awesomework:
Be into it for around 8000 there about's

trailer weight empty is around 3000-3500 camper is 1000-1500 jeep will be around 3500-5000 so all in all 10k max.
the trailer I'm looking at can haul 15k.
The one on here is forsale on craigslist for $4597 and a camper you can find for $800-$20,000 depending on make year and model.
I'll be into mine for around $6000 there about's.
Or I'll be able to haul 2 rig's if I don't have the camper up front.It's a 28ft gooseneck
