I have an 88 4Runner that is leaking oil from the oil pan. I have primarily only worked on jeep FI Inline 6's in the past and have never had to replace an oil pan gasket. I need some advice on how to do this. Is it just draining the oil, bolting the oil pan, taking the old gasket off, cleaning the surface, putting new gasket on, bolting pan back up and refilling with oil? Need some help if anyone is familiar with doing this

Yeah you pretty much described it not sure on if an 88 suspension components are in the way as I have a straight axle 85, but just fit if using a rubber/poly gasket WITHOUT a metal rings (will not have metal rings in the gasket around bolt holes) don't tighten till the bolts wont turn anymore and the gasket squishes out the sides, Just tighten them down snug all the way around the pan and make sure the gaskets stays pretty flush with the pan :dblthumb:

Edit just seen the SAS your good to go

The bolts next to the transmission do not leave room for a wrench. I am gonna try a long pair of needle nose to get them. I think that will do it.

I used a swivel socket on all of them. I'm convinced you can do an entire yota motor swap with a good set of swivel sockets.

I've torn down several 22R's and have yet to find one with an actual gasket. Most are siliconed. I use the grey permatex brand and have never had an issue yet. :****:

The service manager at the local toyota place says they only use the Toyota FIPG black silicone. Says they have never had issues with the stuff.
