Post the pic I don't recall seeing that one in the old WEROCK or UROC series.
Dennis Stacey is his name he used to compete at jellico. He had a black jeep with bright orange Jim's offroad stickers all over it. But this rig he has now he could never get it to work like he wanted because the axles kept coming apart. I'll see if I can find a pic of it I'm within ten miles of his house right know lol.

I'd like to think the same but the portals have been available on military recycler websites for about $180 ea for over a decade now and haven't caught on. Back in the day Stazworx was building solid portal axles using Humvee portal boxes. I think he only built one or two sets and then gave up on it because they didn't sell. I don't know if there's something wrong with them or what.

The helical geared ones are quieter and apparently just as strong as the straight cut ones. With Mog axles generally the straight cut ones were stronger because they didn't put a side load on the box, which was always the weak link. That's why the 404's are so famous for breaking when the 406's and bigger weren't. (404's were helical, 406 were straight.)

Here's a pic of a set of Stazworx axles using Humvee portals.

I hadn't looked into it, I was under the impression that they were expensive

I have bought a handful of surplus trucks from government auctions, even with the 5 ton trucks the first handful of them to come to auction go for crazy money. when they first started auctioning off the newer 5 ton trucks there were a hand full that sold in the 30k range. two years later I bought mine for less than a quarter of that.

I work on these piles of parts day in and day out. I would not want one at all. They are built fairly stout, but ride like ****. The stock motor is junk, the have 3 speed auto trans called a 3L80....basically a th400. They do not have park, so you have to use the parking brake. They are stupid loud going to down the road, especially a soft top version. The exhaust manifolds are almost against the trans tunnel, inches from your leg on either side of the truck....just some thin aluminum and a little bit of insulation between your leg and the exhaust. They do have good brakes though, hydro boost and they are inboard of the knuckles, mounted right on the center chunk. THey are also pretty wide, almost take up an entire lane on the road.......guess you can say I wont be in line for one!

If anyone has any questions, just let me know
