Too small of diameter hose and you will starve the pump. As pump “pulls” the fuel, you have to replace it with air fast enough to not create a vacuum. Most use the same diameter hose for the fuel pump and the vent
Truckers don’t pay the price on the sign for diesel. Fleet cards get a pretty significant discount.
Check out Open Roads - it’s an app for the RV crowd but gets you fleet pricing for diesel by using their card. Usually it’s about 10% (or more) below the price on the sign. Doesn’t work at all...
I ran reds for years. Never had an issue with my 39s (except the size). Cut a sidewall just puttering around my first trip out with the 42s. They were gone shortly after
