we don't get as cold as most of you guys out east, but i use a 4800w 220V electric construction heater in my uninsulated 18X22 garage. I works quite well, built in thermostat and less then $100. i'm pretty sure home depot sells them. they are about 12"x12"x12" so easy to put away when not needed.
